This is for OMP Vid Seat (355 challenge seat) owners. Anyone interested in alcantara skins? I recently visited a buddy in norcal who had his Rx-7 Spirit R seats covered with a new Alcantara skin. These seats are relatively rare and worth about $4-5k in the used market. Much like the OMP seats, they are easily worn and very difficult to find in non-worn condition. He mentioned he worked with an upholstery shop and now they supply Alcantara skins to Spirit R seat owners for about $750 each. Here's the blog where my buddy describes his experience. Black Alcantara Spirit-R Recaros | Grand Mighty I have a pair of red seats arriving from Japan and would like to get new skins. The seats are red and I prefer black, but Im lucky to even find them. It would be nice to preserve the original skin as much as possible. Just curious if anyone else would be interested and maybe we can get something goin'. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a set of 355 challenge seats that need covers I may be interested What colors I need red or like lime green something really bright
Lol. Im sure once he has the original patterns he can make it out of any material he can get a hold of. Red alcantara is pretty nice. Do you still have the beat covers? Perhaps he can use those to build patterns.
Just in case anyone is confused about which OMP Vid seat I am referring to... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferrari-parts-collectibles/526566-f355-challenge-seats-omp-vid-carbon-new.html I wouldve bought these in a heartbeat if Maurice would ship out of Europe. The covers are so mint, id be hesitant to use them. Another reason to get alcantara skins . Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's good to know. I believe he just needs one cover as an example. He might need to take it apart to build the patterns, but let me double-check on that.
Sure One bad thing is the covers fit like poop. The ones on the blog look much better quality May be best to bring them by. How long is the process? I may be up for a week up north LOL
Ok. Here's the scoop. The guy is located in Maryland and his company is called ESH Upholstery. They needed a few tries to get the fit right. One cover needs to be sacrificed as in unseamed to cut patterns. https://www.instagram.com/esh_upholstering/?hl=en Tim. There another guy I know of located in El Monte who might be up for it. I'll get his details and pm you. I hope you have a really beat cover to sacrifice lol. Take one for the team .
Here's an example of a set done in alcantara from an owner in Japan. Before... Image Unavailable, Please Login
After... I prefer mine a bit more subtle. Perhaps just a Cavalino up top and maybe "F355" somewhere below the belt loops. And some french double-stitch action. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just managed to acquire a VIDCarbon shell at decent price to complement the fully refurbished one I have on the driver side. I am now looking for a cover, but as the driver seat is nomex-style (like original), I probabaly would want to use the same material as opposed to alcantara. The driver's seat upholstery job cost me in excess of eur 1000 excluding fabric which I found rather expensive. I am currently trying to get quotes from other upholstery shops and if they're around usd 750 (fabric included) that's competititve. If they can do in original material, which I would expect, then I am interested.
Thibaut... congrats.. You beat me to it I guess;-) But anyhow good luck on the restoration. Please keep us informed about who, what, where and how it goes with the seat. Grazie
Here is the link to the original Nomex Velour used on OMP seats. It is sold in sheets of roughly 10x5 feet (enough to cover 2 seats) for $150. The fabric itself is fairly inexpensive. Whoever is taking on this project will probably want you to send the fabric to them at your expense. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=2159 Alcantara on the other hand is about double the price. 5x3 ft sheet is about $130.
I believe this car with Alcantara upholstery sold for quite a bit of change. Just saying... Image Unavailable, Please Login
