I have that hole too on my car. I'm not sure about the purpose but I used it for application of cavity sealing. Yours still lacks the rubber plug. I placed my paint sticker where it's on the later cars, but I admit, that I don't overly care for it. My car is also lacking the carpet beneath the lid, from which I didn't even know, that it has to be there. Purpose? Heaven knows. Best Regards Martin Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, Stradman. So do you think I have to close the hole with the sticker? At this point I'm wondering if they attached it in a radom place at the factory... Martin, I know I'm missing the rubber seal plug, It's somewhere wainting for to be put in place ciao
I'm learning a lot of things from this discussion. I will wait to put in place the four engine lid carpets and will ask the former owner if they ever were there: Gordon, does your 81 I have carpets under the engine lid? Thank you all very much. Ciao
I think personnally that the sticker should have been like flashman one post#19 or Gordo308's post #46. (like the white line square one your photo). The hole has a rubber plug like the one below the licence plate light (if you look at the lid open) unless the upper one has disappear when the bottom one has been created. It had been made to allow the evacuation of the water of the inside of the lid, I just don't believe that the factory originally cover it by a sticker... Concerning the carpet, I've seen a lot of injected 2v (like the QV) without, and as you said it very exactly, your car look more like an injected than a carb on these points of details....
I think the carpet inserts are there to possibly pad the lid, from things bouncing in the trunk? Or possibly a part of the trunk "trim" to present a more finished look. They are present on my early cars...
I'm looking at a few carbed 308s and came across one with a 99-B-619 single line Salchi sticker. This is post-Glidden from '78. The standard Nero code is 20-B-50 and Bruno's site mentions this was followed by 599-1-619 (308-328.com) The "B" is clearly saying black and the 619 also appears in black coding. But what's the 99? According to what TripleBlack found, it should be the "quality" of the colour. I'm in the software business and we often use extreme values to denote some exceptional case. Could this car have been done in the week they changed over and hadn't quite decided what the new number would be? Maybe a special order black?
Well, let's give credit to whom it is due: it's not my site, but "Triple Black's"; I'm only one of the external consultants here... Rgds
I have seen as well a double line "Salchi" label with the 99-B-619 on the first line from dec 78. I think we are talking about the same color but as this time while company was changing and before change codes for the later one, it may have been several mixes. that is what I think but it is a very personal analysis... 1978 is a changing period for Salchi but it is very difficult to work on that period, not much cars have their original sticker...
Yes, this one is from Dec 78, too. But a single line sticker. Thanks for your info and speedy reply; it has cleared up what I thought might be an anomaly, even if it remains yet another 308 curiosity. I guess it must be one of the first with the newer post-Glidden stickers.
Don't forget that during all 1978, you have the 2 lines sticker with only "Salchi". Glidden stopped to be on that label end of 77.
The one I saw was like your post http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144168648-post29.html , not like this one: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144170515-post40.html
Yes, but there is an other "in between" label, here it is with the same code as you found Image Unavailable, Please Login
The one I saw had a single box with "questa vettura e stata.." before it. Another point I remember was that the production date of the car was quite some time before its first sale (a year iirc). I will try and get a picture if I see it again.
If it is an Euro car, only the factory could give the owner showing the paper, the real production date (and it is still free). The car of the label above is very late dec 78 for sure. What is the chassis number of yours ? Is it a RHD ?
My current evidence for the changeover from one field to two field labels is around second or third week of November. It is certainly around that Nov/Dec timeframe. Maybe the chassis was late being assigned a serial number and build date. Maybe there was a small overlap.
It's a US car & has the production month plate on the door jamb. I'll post the chassis # along with a picture at some point.
I think the chassis number will tell more about but it might be between 267XX and 269XX. I am far from knowing all 308s but the only US black car I saw in UK in that range is 26803. It is a GTS. If you go and take a look at the car, please, don't hesitate to send us the engine and built number... dflett, you are perfectly right saying there might be some overlap in the label or maybe there were something wrong during the test but chassis number were assigned to a built number before the beginning of production depending of the dealer order. I would not be surprised of this little mix of paint labels. When you look later in the production, the change from Salchi to Glasurit took several months...
Hi, First of all I want to apologyse for rescueing an old thread. Said the last, I own a 1983 308 GTBi QV Euro. So, it was painted with Glasurit Paint when built. The car has been repainted twice during its life but just the outer parts of the panels. The interior part of the panels (this is the front trunk lid, engine bay, wheel wells) and what they hide (engine bay, front trunk) remain factory original. The sticker the car has is a Glasurit one, with the Paint code (Rosso Corsa FER300) hand written (with an empty ballpen or something of the kind), and its placed on the right rear end of the engine lid. Is it period correct as it is? Should I replace the sticker for a "printed written" Rosso Corsa FER300 sticker? Is it in the right place? I beleive its original and correct as it is but, as I bought the car three weeks ago and here moore living librarys of our favorite Brand, just wanted to check.
Goliath, the placement of your sticker is correct for your 1983 308qv. I know this for fact, as I have a 1984 308qv which has been in my family since July 1984, purchased new. Everything is original on mine except for new coolant hoses.
Thank you very much for the information Mktwise. I really appreciate it. I was almost sure my unit was a good one, with high mileage maybe (85.000km), but now I know it is really good as this "originality touches" are what make the difference.
