I saw it in Monterey back in 2000. It was a somewhat tired race car at that time.

Pluses for this one are that it got modified for real racing in the GT series.

Stock, they needed a lot of things improved as some of the engineering was left unfinished.
This is based upon the second year Evolution series which had a lot of improvements but some of those didn't work. So if they actually raced it successfully then they had to have fixed most of that crap.

Minuses are that it may be tired ... ?

I bought his other car a while ago and it WASN'T raced in anything except the original series. I've had to do plenty for my use as a track day car.

They are about equivalent to a 355 Challenge except in the turns. Mine never was as fast there but very fast down the straights. Faster/quicker than a 360 but not a 360 Challenge. Not that much slower though.

I don't know if this one retained the ABS like mine which I've been happy to have.

It also needs a brake bias capability, the stock method is mickey mouse.

Check out Enrico's Maserati website he has plenty of info on them there.

You can get 380HP out of these engines WO a ton of work but I kept mine @ 330 to enhance longevity.

You won't be able to use this on the road. It's not even practical and there's a huge penalty for doing so under the importation agreement.

I had plenty of fun with mine but it was just so much work upgrading the things missing from mine. So you may be way ahead with this one. A rebuild of this engine is quite expensive now as the parts are quite rare and more expensive than those of new Maserati. That's true for all of later biturbo engines with 4 valves per cylinder. Don't confuse this with the earlier 3V Biturbo motor. Those are far less expensive and easier to maintain.

This is direct ignition, same units (2) as the F40 so a shop that knows how to custom program those can do these as well. Or just get one new ECU and do even better things with it!

Those are not Evoluzion style headlamps which simply off a F355 are are the rotors and calipers to some degree. Brake parts are easy on this car.

Will take some efforts to bring it back to track-worth condition. Not entirely sure if USA is the best place to sell. But they were superb machines and there was a reason why Ferrari asked to stop the second round of the Open Cup after only few races. Tracktime comparison to 355 Challenge maybe?
Will be a future classic - but when?

I think the estimate is pritty high, but ist no reserve, so all is possible.

Problem is, to bring it back to Europe, another 10 % tax...

There are lots of interesting Maseratis from two major collections in the various Monterey auctions and this while a nice little car is about the least important of the entire bunch.

If you seek a track toy there are many other simpler avenues, including on your side of the ocean.

    Best regards,

    Marc

Here you go, I am sure you have seen this one?

    http://www.finecars.cc/en/detail/car/240893/index.html

Plus it is in a country with fervent Maseratisti, Fjords, mermaids wait maybe one of the three I am not so sure about:)

I know of another no longer on the market: I saw a red one in Turin at Italtecnica in January 2000, behind the building, it had been crashed really badly, it looked like it fell out a plane and the chap who was giving me the guided tour had a rather dubious sense of humor: "Ah yez ze pilota he ezz steeel eenside."

    Not sure what you're expecting?

You got plenty of information and pointers as to where to look?

Are you actually interested in bidding on this car?

The do put schills in the room.

When I bought a car there (Monterey) I wasn't in attendance but I had an agent who was and he spotted the guy who wasn't really bidding but was there to just to get the bids higher.

I was the only bidder. I wanted the car but ... my agent had to go over and talk to the guy.

The guy stopped because he knew I was about ready to walk.

Auctions can be very, very dirty places. If you're the only bidder and on the phone ...

So if you're not there then get a good agent you trust.

I've never bought anything from Gooding.

I watched ... worse than last time. I see a trend ... LOL.

This is good country to buy one of these but not sell one.

This one probably needs more work as it's been sitting for a very long time now.

    But still ...

Some of the other sales were lower and others were insane IMHO.

The Jag XK 120 seemed awfully low, was it a bad example?

But the Lincoln that proceeded the GOC ... OMFG some people are nuts.

Yeah that's what they all said to me at the time, best bought Maserati at the auction that year.

The USA is just not the market for these cars, perhaps he'll do better with it over there.

For sure the cheapest car from the Gooding Auction.

The car won the Championship in 95 and has the 96 upgrade.

A smal pics of Maserati history. There is a special book with all results etc. Existing.
