I'm soon picking up my first Scuderia after previously having several 360CS. While the Scud is a fantastic car and I'm looking forward to something different, I cant help agreeing with the suggestions that it doesnt sound quite as good as the CS, especially the sound of the downshifts (in the case of the CS I understand the particular downshift sound was helped as much by the airbox as the exhaust although also by the fact its a slower shift actually resulted in a bit of the characteristic CS downshift sound). I know Scud wont sound like a CS (even if you swapped the exhaust for a modified CS version due to different displacement, exhaust length, etc, etc) but has anyone successfully changed exhaust / cats / headers / air box in such a combination to get a more magical sound out of the Scud to rival the special sound of the CS? What would you specifically recommend I change?

An xpipe exhaust will give you that high pitch sound similar to a CS. The downshifts will also sound amazing. The ones I like best are S-line and Kline. Kline is a bit more expensive but is made from inconel and also has a valved muffler that can be turned on/off. S-line is lighter due to less parts. Lots of videos here and on youtube.

Thanks. I've looked on YouTube and searched on here a lot and the X-Pipe system (which looks like it only replaces the backbox) sounds awesome although you lose the benefit of the valves on this for the staged sound (or does it retain valves?)

However, I heard a capristo exhaust on a video and that sounds awesome too with benefit of the valved system.

Is there any consensus from those of you that have heard these as well which will give a sound closest to CS from the Scud?

The s-line is just an xpipe so you lose the valve functionality as you stated. Kline makes an xpipe that also has a valved muffler:

I had a full capristo system on my scud before I switched to s-line. It had a nice aggressive sound, but not high pitch like the xpipe config. It also had no drone and a more consistent tone through the whole rev range. BTW, I'm selling my capristo system if you're interested:

I had a CS before my 16M. CS sound is great and I have had a couple of systems on the 16M to increase the volume! The first was an inconel Tubi non valved muffler, very light and well made - terrible drone and I missed the valve control.
Now have a complete Capristo - headers, 200 cats and muffler with remote valve control - been on the car 5 years so I must be pleased. The downshift noise at any revs is now superb.
I have also looked at the s-line and very much like the high pitch F1 sound but I do like the valve control aspect of the Capristo. Kline inconel system would seem to offer the x-pipe and valved control but not heard one to judge.
    Capristo is superb quality!

Kenyon wrote off his UK Scud recently and had a load of parts (including cats etc) that might be of interest - probably can be found in the for sale section

This thread is my daily struggle. Imagine if your job was painting houses and you had to choose the shade of color your customer wanted by their description of the color instead of picking it from a paint chip/sample. That is what it's like to sell an exhaust system. Listening to exhaust videos on the Internet is like trying to figure out what home audio speaker to buy by watching you tube samples of their sound. You will never get an accurate representation of real sound over the internet just a vague idea of tone.

My advice is to go to car meets and listen to them in person before making a decision, every once in a while we luck out and have the same car a potential customer has already done at our shop, this is the best way to know if you'll like it or not.

Asking a forum which system sounds the best is like asking a bunch of different people what song/album should you download from iTunes.

White Scud looks epic speeding down the road. But not convinced on the F1 sound from that short video. I need more pitch and scream.

Hi guys! I just picked up a Scud and I'm in the hunt for that F1 sound. I've watched countless of videos on Youtube. I really like the sound of the S line X pipe. My question for those of you that had this system installed. Have you have had any CEL, heat issue that could damage the CF in the engine bay? Should I go with the polished or just the regular system? How much should a shop charge to have this system installed? Thank you in advance! My car is going to be next week and I just can't wait.

Add the Japanese Powercraft exhaust to the list of valved x-pipe designs. One of the more popular systems amongst Scud owners in Japan. About $8k. Powercraft also makes a nice 4-1 design header that seems to flow better low end than other 4-1 headers on the market. That is an additional $5-6k. I believe the white Scud in the video is running stock headers + stock cats + powercraft muffler.

I'm debating this or K-line. I just wish there were more K line sound clips.

I'm running power craft. Sounds mighty epic to me ;)

Here's a valet caught being naughty w my car by a fellow carspotter:

Can't say I blame him with that kinda music.

But to be honest, the price I paid for the power craft stuff is not really worth it imho...some of the welds were hmmm "sketchy" lol. The fabspeed setup I once had delivers the same performance and sound at a fraction of the price...but me being curious me, I just had to give the pc stuff a whirl. Whenever that ever craps out, the fabspeed is going back in.

I haven't heard of Fabspeed on the scud yet. If it sounds similar to Power Craft then that would be another option. I'm too poor to pay 8k for the exhaust :)

The s-line xpipe alone won't cause any CEL if the rest of your system is stock. If you change the cats, then yes you'll probably get a light. I have capristo cats and had to use a O2 extender to eliminate the CEL. So far no heat issues. My cats and headers (also capristo) have blankets which seems to reduce engine bay heat considerably. Install of the s-line is fairly straight forward. I went with the regular finish and it discolored almost immediately. Wonder if the polished version stays cleaner looking over time.

Thank you! I just called Teague at S Line and made the purchase. Hopefully, it will be here next week.
Teague said the installation process is pretty straight forward. I am curious to know how many hours do you think it will take to get it installed? He also mentioned that I only need to remove the diffuser but not the bumper?

    Your input is much appreciated!

Yep, the s-line is still the best sounding catback setup. My car was one of two of the original guinea pigs during it's early beginnings, quite a handful of imitators out there today but nothing beats the original.

The evolution and iterations of such things as mounting hardware etc has been well thought out, sorted and tested in the wild to everyone's satisfaction.

I'm so happy to see so many fchatters and owners and onlookers alike enjoy the s-line setup. It's truly proven to be one of, if not, the best mod to do on a 360/430 chassis.

Only the lower section of the bumper needs to pop off.

Fabspeed has a video where they show two different set-ups. One with headers, 200 cell cats, and airboxes. To my ears that one has a very raspy, CS-like sound to it. The second part of the video shows the same car with cats deleted, and an X-pipe exhaust. That set-up seems to split the difference between a CS and 355 - harsh and screamy. And very, very loud.

A lot of the X-pipes sound to me more like a 355 Capristo set up - a pre-turbo V8/V10 F1ish sort of scream.

I have come to prefer the raspy, fizzy sound of the CS and F430 - it sounds more authentic and less like a tuned / artificial product. That said, the 355/X-pipe sound is pretty awesome too!

Below is a video of one of our clients Scud's running our performance package. Please let me know if you guys have any questions on his setup, or different potential combos. We will be running a huge sale tomorrow on all Ferrari exhaust products, so I would love to help out any way I can!

Freshmeat, I saw a video clip of your car from a british vlogger that followed you during his trip at Monterey. Your car sounded awesome. If you don't mind sharing your set up in that video. Thank's in advance! :)

Are the Tubi Titanium exhausts the "go to" for Scuds?

Bought a bunch of exhausts and spares, and along with a Capristo I already sold, there's a scud titanium exhaust in the lot with a few hundred miles on it. Guy I bought the parts from said these are $6-8K exhausts, is that true? Do they sound good?

No. Nobody post 360 really uses tubi. If you want the best sound for the best price I vouch for S-line
