ok. Question that has been asked for ages and not fully answered. May be we know more now.
It is clear that the early QV had the 7148 alpine installed.
what is less clear is that some other model may have been installed. Was the 7156 one of them? How aboout the 7158?

Finally if the alpine is of a 2 buttons type does the model really matters? I am trying to see if i can fit an original correct alpine in my car prior the show. this is the only thing that bother me now

7148 is definitely correct for an FLA (1985) car.

However, as you've surmised, there were no absolutes with period production and I have seen 7156 and 7158 installed originally as posted earlier in this thread.

    Okay Found them, thanks Joe!

Here is a recap - 87+ DD have no side vents on the engine cover
a few very late 87 DDs got a special single louver on the side skirt (3 in total vs the 4 in total) which is actually very interesting! but I am still a round belly Countach type of guy!

In case anyone wants to search this site properly as the search function is not very specific, here is how to do it (you can do this on any site)

go to google and search this in:

    site:www.ferrarichat.com countach different side skirts

site:(website here, no space) (search term)

and you get specific pages as a result only from the site.

Patrick I think it all came down to what the supplier (Alpine) had in stock, and occasionally it may have been influenced by the ordering party.

I know, got informed by a colleague who knows the new owner, the car remains in Switzerland.
But it was for sale quite a long time, several times advertised in autoscout.ch

I also should mention that the 1988.5 Blu Acapulco car has had some small mods over time whereas your car is pretty much faithful to original spec.

Im sure this includes the small magic boxes under the front hood that control different vacuum doors for different vents- "electro valves" as Mike called them.. Can you please remember to ask your shop? And where they sourced them? I never did hear from Raymond on this and its important to me. Thank you.

thanks Joe. I guess that is where we all end up. maistream is 7148 mostly for euope and some other period correct units. The prior picts with a equalizer do show large variations..

For the record, Alpine manuals for GLA12942. It's a 7148L for the standard unit.

For what it's worth, I tracked down the original owner of my 88.5 and he told me that he took delivery of the car in NJ directly from Joe Nastasi and there has no radio in the car at all.

    Hi Paul

You do not need to produce the base plate. On Ebay you can find a similiar Vitaloni mirror. The base plate and many other parts are the same!

    for example here:

Specchio specchietto retrovisore grey Vitaloni Turbo Fiat Lancia Ferrari Citroen | eBay

or just look out for a Vitaloni Turbo mirror and check the pics.

    Regards

    Daniel

Thanks for that. the base plate which is on the door which is the one that is broken and isnt part of the top plate which fixes to the mirror. However that is an excellent spot and i am greatley obliged to you for that.

I have been invited to take part in a Race the Runway event on 3rd October at an RAF base.

So far I have never driven my car beyond 160mph but that has been on public roads a number of times. My feeling is the car would be good for about 180mph as it always feels at or about 160mph that it has quite a bit to go. From experience, getting the last say 10mph out of a car is a struggle and a wait, which isnt good if there is limited braking or run off.

I would like to try to see how fast I can go, subject to their being a good surface and a good braking area. I have recently fitted 4 new tyres to the car and it is in good mechanical shape.

I have read ( and repeatledy re read, as most of us have! ) all of our old road tests and the varying top speeds etc. The car is now 30 years old so, one must make allowances for age (mine and the cars). i wont be dumping the clutch for a burnout start.

Do any of you have recent very high speed experience of the QV DD? Any experience views on the difference between the rear and non rear wing on top speed?

My fastest so far was 178mph in a Hurrican 2WD at Millbrook proving ground on the mile straight and previoulsy 174mph in a Ferrari 360 on the road.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Paul,

The base plate is part of the delivery of the mirror package.

On the first picture you can see the original Countach Vitaloni Turbo Mirror

On the second picture you can see the Vitaloni Turbo mirror as offered on Ebay.

They made the base plate intentionally weak. The plate should break in case of a hard impact on the mirror.

    Regards

    Daniel
