As above, my FF has the optional motor to close the luggage compartment/boot/trunk. Yesterday (while away from home), it decided not to close. The lid moves and then stops, as if it detects something in the way. There is nothing in the way that I can see and I was finally able to convince it to close after about 15 minutes gently moving the lid and then pushing the "close" button. This is obviously "inconvenient" as driving is limited with an open trunk.

Car will go to the dealer, of course, but wondering whether there is something obvious that I'm missing. I know that there is a memory position for a maximum open, but I have not gone through that procedure.

I'm thinking that it may be one of the shocks/struts that open the lid. Thanks for any advice!

I've had this, or similar, happen a couple times. Pretty much as you describe: as it starts down, it stops, then goes back up, as if it encountered something. I just push button again and give it a little extra push as it's heading down, and firmly hold it down as it gets to the latching point. It latches and is fine.

Next time I went to use it, it worked without any issue. Before you take yours to the dealer and have them show you how well it works, have you tried to reproduce the bad behavior?

An stuck open trunk (or hood or door) can be more than inconvenient. The car won't go into gear unless the trunk lid sensor detects that the trunk (door/hood) is closed...

I had this problem with my FF. It would actually close and then electrically open again. Dealer replaced both electric struts as well as the lock mechanism under warranty. Fixed the issue. I suspect the problem was with the lock mechanism on my car. Also, changing the struts required removal of most of the trim in the back of the car. The electrical cable connection is deep inside the trim and no way to disconnect without removing a lot of the trunk trim pieces.

Well, I got it shut and then after a drive, had to open it again and it did it again. This time even longer to get it closed. So currently don't want to open it again until I get to the dealer. I'm afraid to push too hard on it - how hard did you push it down?

Thanks. It is not reopening, so hopefully not the locking mechanism.

OK, sounds like yours is not just a simple issue like mine turned out to be. I really had to lean on mine once or twice, but I figured it was still under warranty at the time, so it was better broken now and fixed than nurse it along. Also really pissed me off, so I kind took it out on it.

It's sad that convenient features like this become more headaches than conveniences. I hardly ever use this feature on any car that has it. Just a simple downward swing motion of my arm gets any trunk closed immediately. Maybe I just don't have the patience to watch it close, while knowing it is also draining the battery. Of course, it will be different if I have shoulder injury or arthritis...not yet and hopefully not anytime soon.

The struts have the highest chance of failing due to the weight of the trunk lid they are carrying.

After awhile they'll need to be replaced so that's probably what is happening.

Here is the update. The left strut was frozen. Dealer removed and lubricated it and it is now working.

Who woudda thunk it? My first FF repair.

The water pump was leaking and that part needs to come from NJ, but that doesn't seem like a big deal either. All under warranty. So far so good.

Hi - digging up this thread…

after a car wash yesterday the boot now doesn’t open up, it unlocks but doesn’t lift so I have to manually lift it.

however it does close when I press the close the button - but the car thinks the boot is still open… I’ve tried locking and opening three times but that hasn’t helped.. any ideas or is back to the garage!?
