I think that the car is too quiet at idle stock. The458 was aus well. In both cases a valve removal or controller worked. Overall exhaust note is okay even better with Novitec The revs need to go to 8000 or 8250 to work as planned with the gearing. I don't care who says otherwise. Shift from 6-7 at full throttle and the bog is all the proof you'll need. It has tremendous feedback but The car has too much body roll still. Even with the race seats the driving position is too high and you're not held in the car well enough with the seats Stock tires heat and grease over too quickly for hard track use. No surprise for a street tire and easily swapped out but the question is asked however for a stock car. My biggest gripe is the pause between gears when shifting at wot. Get in the 458, f12, FF LT etc and yet quick shifts with no pause between 488 has a pause and it's my biggest negative. I could come up with more I'm sure if I dwelled on it. The car is still a blast and my list is not flaming the car.
minor quibble: I have to go into the setup menu to adjust the tft brightness, in the 458 I could do it directly with the up and down buttons on the left side controller. On the plus side, the Tach brightness now adjusts with the rest of the dash, in the 458 it seemed fixed. Also, Keyless start is a big plus, but if you are doing keyless start, you need to do keyless entry. That way the key can stay in your pocket the entire time. Small, small quibbles in an otherwise much improved platform.
The ONLY thing that has really annoyed me is the random radio issues where we get no sound. I hear there is a software update (from Arnie) that fixes this. The only other silly thing is no keyless entry even though it's keyless start. Honestly I think it's the best mid engine v8 they have ever done.
Yeah, I live in Vegas and total pain in the ass to take 458 out in the afternoon with the high heat because the A/c is not good for this heat. No problem in my Turbo S though.....great air!! It's not really a problem when temps are in low 90's though. Hopefully 488 has better AC. My Cars: 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cab Only 2 worth mentioning.......
Not weird at all. The eventual "super" version will have 1000 more RPMs so they have somewhere to "grow" to.
Complaints: Have not heard one or seen one in the flesh. What l know: Too expensive (my car plus $150k) Takes too long to order one...just like every other rear mid-engine Fcar V8.
I've seen 2 traded in already locally in Vegas at dealership. Maybe it was too perfect. Who knows. My Cars: 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cab Only 2 worth mentioning.......
Agreed. The 458 Speciale improved from the 458 Italia's 12.5:1 Compression ratio to an industry high (for pump gas) of 14:1 Compression ratio for more horsepower/response. 100 kgs removed. New and improved aero. All other aspects...pretty much the same. My gripe with the 488 is the rear. I've seen a few of these in person and have stared at the rear and it really hasn't done anything for me. You can bet when the 488 Speciale arrives, that will be revised. They'd probably keep the boost levels the same and you can count on 8500-9000 RPM rev range and most likely different transmission gearing to go with that. You can count on 100 kgs weight reduction as well. If the 488 were perfect, there would be no need for a 488 "Speciale" and I'm sure Ferrari is already well aware.
Don't understand the shifting issue ? The 488 has 30% faster up shifts and 40% faster downshifts compared to the 458. I still own my 458 and there is no question the 488 shifts faster in both directions. The rear of the 488 is much improved over the 458 with a wider stance, wider tires, LED lights, fog lamp F1 style etc. I guess the looks are subjective but next to my 488 the 458 looks dated. I agree there is still too much body roll for sure. People are making too much out of the redline issue imo. I have the race seats and I think they are very good. Not as much support as a bucket type seat like what's in some Mclarens or a GT3 but the car isn't as track focused as those cars. Big deal if there are some cars for sale on the pre owned market. The 488 has been out for close to a year in the States and I'd expect some turnover at this point. Every other car on the planet has seen some pre owned examples after 8-12 months of being out. Does that make the La Ferrari , 918, P1 or Buggati bad cars? Bottom line is no car is perfect and of course they keep getting better. The 458 was an all time great without a doubt but the 488 is a better car overall .
Not sure what everyone is missing w the shifts. Get above 2-3 shift at full throttle and there is a pause between gears your head actually moves forward due to the lack of acceleration between shifts.
A member of F- chat announced it on a thread ( i can t remeber where). Consequently, i ve asked to my dealer and it was confirmed.
I really like my 488 GTB - even the sound ist pretty cool for a turbocharged car, especially in race mode when hot! What is not so good is the socket of the battery tender: the cable stands out and you cannot put the cover without making a whole... Then the left screen broke down and had to be repaired in the factory. The "pit speed"-function is not logical - the only way to stop it is to stand on the brake... And last but not least the manual is not very helpful in many sections, for examlple in the radio ans the navigation section. I know - all minor points, otherwise the car is a blast!
I think many 488 owners will agree when I say that I was pleasantly surprised by the sound of my 488. I can only describe it in this way. At just regular cruising speed at 20-35mph, the sound is a very loud growl like an angry wolf that is ready to attack. I am telling you the sound is very loud at this stage! Its is louder than my 458. The 458 seemed louder at the 8-9k rpm which 488 doesn't have and you have to be ready to make that gear shift pretty quickly as it reaches 7500-8000 rpm very quick! I am telling you, inside the 488, the sound is very loud!!! And ANGRY like sound!
Exhaust-----but wait.....Not the noise, but the pipes My only gripe is that the pipes look a little bit dull and boring for the car, the triple pipes on the 458 looked good, I'm sure Ferrari could have come up with something a bit more "mean" looking......
