2012 is 4 years ago !!! A lot of water has gone under the bridge since, don't you know? It's generally accepted that you are as good as your last year ...
So what? He was very good in 2013 and 2014 too, the car was terrible, especially 2014. He still almost won at Hungary in 2014 in that thing, masterful drive. Literally annihilated Kimi Raikkonen. No driver in the history of F1 could do anything with the cars he's had the last 2 years. Will be funny if McLaren gets its act together because you people are going to look silly. Alonso is still a beast, do not sleep on him...
Unfortunately, we have lost that diversity in F1, now that the technical regulations impose so many parameters. There was a time when cars with engines from 4 to 12 cylinders used to race together. But not now. That's what I miss most.
It will not be funny to me, as I am almost neighbour to McLaren, and know some people working there. I expect them to get it right one day - with or without Honda. But that doesn't change my opinion about Alonso. He is certainly a good and fast driver, but I don't think he will ever show again the same talent he had at Renault (first time), and sometimes at Ferrari. I may be wrong. I put him in the same category as Button; living on past reputation, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and with not much hope to get a better drive. Right now, I wouldn't put Alonso as one of the best 5 drivers on the grid. I repeat, RIGHT NOW.
I do, right now. It's now what Alonso has done 10 or 5 years ago that matters, but his form today, RIGHT NOW. If it was a horse race, would you bet on Alonso RIGHT NOW ?
Perez has often been the best driver in an independent team with a customer engine. Force India is a small outfit compared to others, which gives more merit to their performance .
Alonso is riding an old hag ....put him in the same car and he would cream Nicole and Perez, and i have never been a big fan of Alonso
Maybe, maybe, but RIGHT NOW, he is driving a McLaren, and there is no point speculating this and that. The fact is that the form book (in horse racing parlance) would not place Alonso among the favourites ahead of Rosberg, and probably not Perez either. If Alonso was to miraculously get a top car, his rating could go up after a couple of good races, but RIGHT NOW, I don't fancy his chances.
On present form Rosberg is 2nd with 5 wins, Ricciardo 3rd with several podiums, Vertsappen 6th with 1 win and Perez 8th with 2 podiums in the 2016 championship. Alonso is 13th with 5th as best place in 12 rounds, and no podium. Again, if it was horse racing, would you put your money on Alonso for the next race? the next championship? I don't care if the guy has won championships in the past, drove his socks out in some races, it's what he can deliver next time that matters. The fact is that Alonso is now cornered at McLaren; Renault won't probably have him back, nor Ferrari, and Mercedes is very unlikely destination for the Spaniard. Also, Red Bull don't recruit ex-WDC, the rest are customer teams. Alonso's only hope is for the Honda engine to get among the winners. Right now, the drivers I quoted are ahead of him. Period.
I'm very serious. 2012 good year, but not great... not always his fault, but he could not keep the momentum up when it was needed. in todays F-1 championship taking the lead mid season is almost a burden... its the last 10 races that really matter that is where you need the momentum and consistency. I'm less impressed with Hamilton as well. the car is great, so he is great. however he shows that he can be psyched out by Rosberg.. and he was making desperate moves like in Spain. Vettel I think is the real deal. I say that because he showed his potential at Torro rosso.
He finished out the year 3 3 RET 3 2 2 3 2. One minor mistake in Japan that ended up witht he cut tire. The Red Bull was on another planet the second half of 2012, Alonso finished as good as you could hope for. If it wasn't for Grosjean taking him out at Spa that title was his. One of the best seasons I've ever seen in what was likely the 4th best car.
LH has never come close to this in a less than perfect car. FA is beyond LH in that ability to get the 1% extra from the machine. No one else on the grid shows that...now.
Vettel is nothing more than a blown diffuser prod. If the car isn't set up exactly to his liking he is pretty average. Paul Di resta beat him quite convincingly in f3 as team mates. His only good team mate is Ricciardo who destroyed him. He was amazing with Neweys car because it suited him but he's a one dimensional driver. His current performances against Kimi leave little to be desired. In the current cars I think nico is quicker than Vettel. Next year when they have higher down force he will be good again. Hamilton and alonso are quick in anything.
Even Porsche made a V4 for their sports cars, and a F1 is even tighter than those, so I suppose that there still are good reasons to not use flat or in line engines.
just wow. do you make everything in life so easy for yourself. Go study the art of making coffee and roasting your own beans. You'll realize even the simple sh*t is not simple sh*t. Now, your world of F1 is more simple then a lego space ship.
Mauluf, Just my opinion but I feel there is reason behind it. Not going to hold back just because he drives for Ferrari
I don't understand what your judgement of Vettel should have to do with Ferrari. Your judgement of racing drivers in general and here in particular is - in your words - one dimensional.
You could be right..Vettel probably sucks...but of course since he destroyed Elton who was driving the best car of the season while driving a Toro Rosso, this means that almost everyone on the grid is much better than your beloved hero....i know..logic sucks..
