Came here to see who would post the story, lol. MacNeil throws his toys out of the pram or legitimate BoP protest? Hmmmm.
well there's only been one Porsche victory so far this year..... .....but it was from the other AJR car. this whole "series sponsor is also a team sponsor for the team sponsor's kid drives for" thing stinks.
I lost all respect for Cooper last year when he was upset with some sort race ruling (forgot exactly what it was about) and tweeted something to the effect of "I'm sure Dad wont be happy about this either" to IMSA.
Park Place just withdrew their 911 from GTD over BoP concerns....so maybe this is a Porsche Motorsport/PMNA led revolt, not the McNeil's.
short term, probably not (long term contract with big penalty for withdrawing, etc). long term, can't see them renewing. I think the WeatherTech deal was 3 years.
It looks like Porsche teams are screwed up everywhere with the BOP. In unrelated series like WeatherTec, IMSA, GT3, WEC, Blancpain GT, etc... , the Porsche have come up worse off after a review of BOP.
yeah I don't understand this. Porsche hasn't been uncompetitive, 1 win and a bunch of podiums, I don't know why all of a sudden they're having a temper tantrum.
Ed Brown takes a slap at the MacNeils: Patron's Ed Brown slams WeatherTech Racing for withdrawing from IMSA series Cliff Notes version: less boating, more work.
Perhaps they were told they can no longer use the pit maneuver to try to win races. Sorry...I am thinking of GTLM.
Park Place now pulling out... I've been following racing a long time now. Don't recall defections such as this mid-season due to disagreements with the rules. Park Place Pulls Porsche GTD Entry for VIR - Sportscar365 BHW
one of the many problems with series/classes built around pro-am racing...when the Am who funds it throws a tantrum and takes his money and goes home.
Yes but it's always been like that - even up to and including F1. Maybe there are more tantrums today but maybe we just have more knowledge of them? Patrick Lindsey owns Park Place but this seems more orchestrated by Porsche. Makes me wonder if they also orchestrated Leh Keen's departure. Edit: I think passive fans would be shocked to know just how much of motorsports is this way.
sure it's always existed. what's changed is that the business model of racing has gone from primarily manufacturer or corporate sponsor supported with some gentlemen drivers filling in the gaps, to a much larger percentage of "pay to play" drivers (or worse, driver's parents). entire categories are now built around "pro am" classes....those classes don't exist without rich guys writing big checks. so when a few of them get annoyed, it makes a big splash. I also agree that Porsche, despite their "customer's decisions, we have no comment" stance, has some interest/influence in how this is going down.
BOP and its variations are killing racing, IMO. If you want perfect parity just start a spec series and skip the fake drama.
**** pro racing... Been in this game thirty-five years and no one gets out alive. From one of the few who makes a good living off this sport.
