I have just finished aligning my hood, PO probably never cared about it.I was hoping that it would solve my issue with the release cable. I have to pull the release handle of the hood very high before it disengages. The PO scratched the leather as a result of that. I can not seem to find an easy adjustment of the release cable. I assumed you could adjust at the handle with 2 counter screws but that does not seem to be the case. Any pointers?
On a 355, the cable adjustment for the bonnet is at the latch side. Take a look there. (I know you are not asking about a 355 but that is where I have experience and speculating it may be the same)
That was my assumption as well, but from what I can see I see no adjustment mechanism at the latch side. the cable comes in attached to a hook that is connected to the pull-tab by means of a nut and bolt I was hoping to see a threaded hook with a nut for adjustment but no joy...
Thank you PKL. I noticed it yesteday. It has a HEX style end ... I could not figure out how it could make an adjustment, but I guess I need to go back and investigate.
If I recall correctly, the knurled knob 29 in diagram, should be used to take up the cable slack. You need to hold the locking nut and adjust. However, the weak link is a cheap plastic clip at the interior end of the cable that fits into the bonnet pull frame under the dash. I have repaired this by using cable ties and a nut, but it is really not up to the job. If this is broken or damaged it does not hold the cable outer as you pull the release lever, stopping the cable from pulling the catches. Problem is that the replacement cable is very, very expensive from Ferrari!! and you have to get the whole thing. At some point I will get a new cable made up to replace and perhaps get a cast/metal type retainer at the interior end. So far my diy repair has held for a year or so, but you have to be very careful when you pull the release lever to not yank on it.
Thanks. I knew someone would have fiddled around with this.... What did we do before the Internet? I can not recall that anymore. Michel
Forgot to add that it is a massive pita to remove the interior release lever from the dash. Upside down with head in footwell swearing!!!! Have fun !!!!
Adjustment is indeed at # 29. There is a rubber sleeve you need to pull away in order to make the lock nut and adjusting knob visible. I believe it is important that you set the hood alignment first by turning the rubbers stops (#44) in or out, next is the adjustment of the release cable.
