this car once complete will be in the running for best in the world bbi!!!! I bet this would move the needle to above $400k in a hurry. a movie star paul!!!!
This car is likely to head straight to a museum - fantastic work, Paul. It would be a shame to drive it and a shame to not drive it
While I hate going south of 401, I am sitting in my car waiting for my daughter downtown Toronto thinking....what if this were mine! Amazing work Paul.
Like I've said before, this is a super nice car and restored like it should be done. I don't think there can be a better resto than this. So this is probably the nicest exemple in the world or one of the nicest. IMO this is where it start to be a challenge for the owner. Become a slave of the car or of your self thinking. I hope the owner will enjoy it to a minimum and the car won't stay in storage fully covered and never see the road. It's nice and have to be shown for a while when it's freshly done but when properly used and enjoyed they become even nicer in my opinion. Paul I think you should go for the few hundred kilometers
I feel that restored cars are not a big risk to drive, since it has just been restored, if anything gets damaged, it can be repaired again. When you drive a completely original car, if anything gets damaged such as the paint, it is no longer original. This car should be lightly driven though to keep it looking new. Awesome job Paul.
faza would be great if you could fill out your profile and introduce yourself a little this helps you and all others here thank you
Paul, awesome car. Since you are going for total perfection, what are you doing about the foam under black plenums under the rear clamshell? Thanks
I put some info on my profile. I don't do a lot on this forum, but I am very impressed with Paul's restoration of the Boxer and his dedication to doing it 100% correct.
When the suspension is restored, it's tough to take them on the road. I figure, only drive when it's dry, then wipe it down as necessary. Another big problem for the sacrosanct suspension is brake dust. It's so fine, and it sticks to the beautiful metal parts. Also, if you drive it with spirit, the hot brake dust sticks even more to painted parts. Do we own these cars - or - do these cars own us?
This is what I call being slave of a car. It doesn't work for me. I like to look at these cars and apreciate the work but I need something to drive. You need a few cars to own one like this.
Working on the box, engine and side glass. The ignition cylinder wouldn't turn since the day I bought this car so I took it out and took it apart and pinned it to match the key that came with the car. Not sure what happened because the key code matches the car but it wouldn't turn, now it does. Dash goes in shortly along with several other items at the same time. Pics to follow. We're at an exciting stage now. The box is detailed, the block halves are together and its looking more like a car. Filler neck is a little worse for wear, i'm repairing it because I can't find a new or used one. Each boxer version uses a model specific filler neck. i have just read this and enjoyed browsing 14 pages of detailed photos, these are my favourites threads on the forums. Bravo!!!
I don't own a Ferrari, never will.... I originally joined this forum an age ago to follow Traveller's awesome F40LM restoration/reinvention and i keep coming back to while away the small quiet times to be inspired by some awesome work that continues here. Newman, your work and dedication is inspirational..... Long may you continue to provide the good distractions in life.
Amazing detail in this resto! Resto threads are by far my favourite on the forum. Thanks for sharing Newman, looking forward to seeing more.
+1 This car will be amazing when it's completed. I see some other owners fully restoring their 308s and 246s. A dream would be to have enough money to buy this BB, that 308 and that 246 off the owners that fully restored them. Imagine owning all those cars and others fully restored today? Price would be extreme and you would have to make an offer the owner can't refuse, but man it would be nice to drive those cars and have them all in the garage. They would feel like new, 40+ years later. These guys undertake HUGE projects and I take my hat off to them. I don't have the time, money, knowledge or patience to take on something like this.
