lol...yep...everyone who's used one misses it when it's not there. But try telling Apple people they're missing out on something. The answer is always the same "who needs that?" No one NEEDS it, but it's nice just the same. When I had my Motorola and Treo smartphones, (long before iphones) everyone said "who needs that crap". Now the only person I know who DOESN'T have a smartphone is my 95yo Dad.
That's It I gave up with my PC ( Pile of C ) and took it to a local tech. At least I have a iPad to keep track of mail and FChat
I have a linux box to fall back on but in 26 years of using Microshaft OS on x86 -> present desktop I have NEVER had to use it. I've rebuilt many PC/laptops with the kiddy's OS but a lot of that was because of the viruses that infected the internet. Nowadays you just lock it down and avoid the unsavoury sites .... like fchat j/k I went to hackers.com ONCE, to get a port scanner, PC rebuild needed after being on the site for less than 5 minutes .... lesson learnt
So your on the Feds watch list.... My B thing froze from day one and while I was loading MS Office Trend Micro and all that stuff that was on my PC with XP... I Also run History Kill to keep the drive clean.
Seeing Moretti has a rant about his power supply company I figured a continued rant about my PC is in order. $300 and it still f"........g crashes. At my request I got them to change one of the hard drives I run two one operate one for memory, as it didn't crash on one, so I thought. They ran another Stress test, couldn't find a problem. Crashed three times. I think the mother...f ...mother board is the issue stress test or not. And no I dont feel better, I've also got man flu..
Had the NBN connected last week.... phones clearer...internet speed even more variable NBN boots million homes from HFC cable to slower FttN
While I'm not a fan of PC, Mac aren't much better. This post just for people considering PC/Mac (desktop computer - yes, some people still require a desktop for power/speed). Many points also apply to the PC vs. Mac laptops too. With a PC you get the freedom to build and customise as much as you like, with fewer limitations. With a Mac you are locked into their software which controls and influences the hardware too much. My partner is a professional photographer (no, not one of your run-of-the-mill photographers who studied at Tafe, employing standardised editing on photos and who appear like mushrooms after the rain) so her computer must be world class. Many people in her field use Mac but she decided to go the PC route. We had one built for her and it end up costing way more than an iMac but the proof is in the pudding. The benefit is that it runs way smoother, far more powerful, it connects with absolutely every possible device out there, all software works on the PC (including Mac-specific software, which there isn't much of) and more 'future proof'. It doesn't lag ever, it never misses a beat and is also beautiful. If she went Mac she would've been heavily limited in the graphics processing side of things as well as in the monitor department. With a Mac her EIZO monitor wouldn't output as smoothly or at the required level of fidelity (especially if she went with the standard iMac's instead of the tower). They just can't power the screen properly. Her PC handles it fine and uses the monitor to its full capabilities. Her current graphics cards are above and beyond what she will need for the foreseeable future; the amount of RAM is ridiculous and the SSD (main drive) is both large and faster than what Mac offer (Mac's SSD's are bloody quick!). For those looking for the most powerful computer a PC can't be beat. Even if you don't need to go to the extremes but would like to have a computer run smooth and powerful a modern PC custom built can easily run hundreds cheaper than a nice iMac and more than likely be way more powerful. Don't believe anyone when they say PC's are ugly; yes many are, but there are some beautiful minimalist cases around which match a Mac. The keyboard/mouse are also beautiful on PC too - just buy the right one. Note: Mac keyboards do not even include a backlight, PC keyboards are just as minimalist and thin and do include a backlight. There is an argument sometimes made that "Mac's don't get viruses" which isn't true. There used to be less Mac's around the world so naturally people who hack computers targeted PC's. Apple has done well in growing since those days and so has the 'virus community' (for lack of a better name!); Mac's do get viruses and there are plenty to get. If your Mac is seriously affected (or alternatively, just breaks down) it is extremely expensive to fix. This is due to proprietary parts, things soldered onto one another on the main boards etc. PC's can more easily be rid of viruses and can more easily (and cheaply) be repaired. In my mind there are no benefits to a Mac, it comes down to operating system. Do you like Apple's software or Window's 10? Window's 10 has it's issues, but so does Apple. The days where Window's didn't play well with iPhone are gone. It works with iPhone perfectly fine as well as Android. So for those sitting on the fence (or for those who are angry that PC's never work as you want them to work) maybe hold off from jumping into Mac and make a list of what you want from your computer (or laptop). If you want speed, ease of repair, stronger hardware - PC is best. Macs can offer speed but lack in the hardware department (e.g. graphics, screen quality). In regards to laptops Macs have the best battery by far, which is their only advantage over a Windows laptop. Credit given where it is due. EDIT: Re-read my post and I sound more biased to PC in it; that was not intended as I'll buy the best platform at the current point in time that meets my requirements. At the current point in time Mac's are too limited and underpowered for the pricepoint in both the desktop and laptop space.
I buy $50 Ebay PC's and am happy with them. When they blow up, toss em in the bin and buy another. A mate spent $8000 building a PC around 10 months ago, surfs the net with it. Has the most ridiculous amount of liquid cooled RAM and 8x 'quick release' 1TB hard drives that click into it down the side. Has 8x USB ports on top of it also. All very good, but paid a fortune and does nothing with it. It will be slow in 2 years time and I will buy it for $500 off him. He always buys and sells these things to get the next latest and greatest. He does the same with laptops. Pays up to $5000 customizing laptops! Lucky for me, he just moved back into town.
Sounds like a great friend to have! $8,000 is a fair amount to spend. My partner spent similar money excluding the case and monitor so the price-point sounds about right for a top performing PC. Not sure how slow it will be in 2 years, at $8,000 and comparing to the average and above average computers - with those specs - in 2 years should still be considered a powerhouse! I think it has 5 years before it would be considered 'average' or just above. Maybe offer him $450 and go up from there in 2 years; you should be set for another 5 that way!
Yeah, his came with the case but no monitor either. *Of course* He purchased a 24" 4K monitor from Harvery Norman for $1800. Pretty sure that number rings a bell. I should have worded my post correctly sorry, HE thinks his computer will be slow in 2 years time and will sell it to buy the latest and greatest. Lol When he is ready to sell it I might buy it off as it will probably see me out. I want it more for the storage capacity, I don't need that power as I don't play online gaming like he does. I take a lot of pics of the kids, plus all my other crap I have on my computer so I wouldn't mind having 8TB of storage built into my computer. lol This same dude owns 7x Plasma and LCD tv's in all differnt sizes, but only needs and uses two of them. Lol He loves buying the latest and greatest, can't help himself.
Sounds like a great guy with a nice hobby, which can all work out good for you! You'll never have to visit JB Hi-Fi or the like again! Your future computer and hopefully TV needs are covered if he sells it all to you.
My brother sent me a message saying this appeared on his computer Sunday night and was stuck like this for hours. He eventually turned it off, but if he turns it on same screen appears. Any suggestions? Cheers. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep and I love this expression The f..g thing is f..ing well f...g f..d! If he has the original CD start the PC using the CD (F12 I think ).
