I don't like bbr... they make loads of different limited editions of the same car.. in essence its not limited at all, allthough the models itself are nice
I bought both of these new over 20 years ago. I will seldom see them for sale, and if they do come up for sale, almost always red, yellow or sometimes blue. Are 33b and 33c uncommon/rare? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mostly collectAmalgam, BBR or MR actually my first Looksmart beautiful in blue TDF color. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree Amalgam is same but large scale. Made in China and Romania. Models are nice but looking at prices (Amalgam) I would go for a De Conto!
It's not the best model, but was great for its day, and I am still very happy with it. This is a Renaissance factory built California. They also produced this in limited kit form, but the kits did NOT come with any leather and carpets. Those extra items were reserved only for the factory hand builts. It was made in France and produced in 1991, which is when I bought it. It's the first 1:24 scale edition that they made. Plans were for a big run, but they did not sell well, and so the run was cut very short, a total of 109 were built, and that was split across 5 different colors, with different color interiors too. It was an expensive model back then at around $600. which today with inflation in 2016 Dollars is equal to $1,060.00. But back in those days, there were numerous models from various European and American model specialists that were in that price range back then. Some were less and some were more. Even very many of the really special 1:43 hand built models were in the $150 to $300 range, and again many were more expensive than that. So I always find it a little funny when so many people complain these days about the cost of various Chinese made resin models, most of which cost a lot less today, especially when compared to what many of us used to buy. Love it Marshall! Its not the scale I collect but a very unique piece! a price is a number in time.. It depends on different things. I am not into Amalgam or BBR and similar Chinese models. They lack a certain feel of exclusivity and artisanal skills. To clean, to uniform and perfect.. Like the were made by a machine. I don't believe they will be as collectable as f.i. a modell made by a master modelbuilder. The name and reputation of the builder make a piece special. A brand, however good does not have the same appeal.

Marshall, do you remember the Climax Junior 1/24th 275 GTBs competizione I did for you in the nineties, you featured one in Vintage Motorsport, they were expensive kits but delivered very nice models. The master of those models were made by hand by truly capable craftsman, weren't they?
Thanks Hans, and that Barnett model is fantastic - it looks like it is one of his best pieces. I agree with you about the Chinese made models vs. models made by specialists, but I do also collect some of those mass market pieces of some cars I really wanted larger models of, and others (i.e. 1:43 Spark GT40 models) that I just did not want to spend a lot on. I guess you have to take the good with the bad to some extent. Pricing I am well aware has so many variables, but back in the 1980s - 1990s before the Chinese started cranking out decent models like sausages, the prices for good to great 1:24 and larger hand builts was comparably higher than prices today when you factor in labor wages and inflation and values, etc.
Patrick, always good to hear from you. Yes, I do remember that kit, and the build you did, and of course featuring it in Vintage Motorsport. The build work you did still rates as one of the best builds, in fact all of your built models have always been excellent. And yes, the masters made for kits like that one were certainly made by capable craftsmen with an excellent eye more making models look good. As I'm sure you know, that Climax kit was also reissued by MFH after they acquired all the Climax patterns.
made by Jacques brauer in 1991, its based on a white-metal kit and one off. Had the chance to buy it from an english collector that had it built new. Brauer models are extremely rare and mostly built to order. The man is an artist. He is one of the very best in 1:43. jbrauerwol.com accueil
