I have a 1985 Euro GTS in A+ condition, new suspension, new leather, new exhaust, etc. What is your price range? Car is located in USA.
Ferrari began to publish statistics on colors at about this time, and the fact that about 50% of all 355 are not red seems to be established; I have to find my reference again, but in the meantime I enclose here a table for the colors of the whole range of cars (= NOT a single model) during the years 1997 to 2008: make up your mind, knowing that usually the smaller cars (Berlinettas) are ordered more in Red than the big V12s (a 355 is lovely in Rosso Corsa, a 550 less so), so the average may be biased, especially as the smaller car are produced in greater numbers, but it really seem that there was an eruption of "redditism" during the eighties, which calmed down later. An I agree with you, many early carbed 308 GTBs were ordered NOT in red, and many of these poor babies with beautiful colors were repainted red later... Rgds Image Unavailable, Please Login
Of course, one of the most famous examples is the designer Leonardo Fioravanti's personal fibreglass car which was in Argento with Bordeaux interior. And a thicker steering wheel for some reason.. To the o/p I'm not a tax expert but I'd have thought a car which originally had tax paid in Europe, then exported to the US and reimported to Europe would maybe not attract import duties back into Europe since taxes have already been paid. Of course it depends on proof via paperwork and there may be exceptions for, eg, military service personal exports/imports.
Now this maybe a personal phobia, or a french phobia, but should any doubt remain, I wouldn't do any importation whatsoever without a WRITTEN sound tax advise from a tax specialist, and questioning my own tax correspondant at the french tax administration before, showing the said advise, and asking for an official answer on the matter. I once had a broker of some sort who wanted to sell me a 328 through a swiss subsidiary of his certifiying me that the car was not VAT taxable, calling all Gods to his help, etc... I asked an offical advise from the tax administration, which I got at no cost, which explained in great details why the car was VAT-taxable; sent it to said broker, end of the story. You would sleep better if everything is totally clear; I wouldn't play russian roulette with the tax administration. But that's just me... Rgds
I agree. This page is rather old but the principles described within appear sound and only need corroboration with HMRC (UK tax) as to their current validity wrt reimporting Re-import of vehicles to the UK.
