Agree, if his avatar could be seen in the f.1 section it would be great...i really miss him, it seems like something is missing when we watch and talk about the races...and of course it is...

    +1000.

Very, very sad indeed. I almost never come to this section but "knew" Ian from other sections. His posts were positive and uplifting... and now sorely missed.

Freshmeat, thank you very much for your efforts. I can only imagine how disheartening the return trip must have been.

Life is fleeting. Hug your loved ones in memory of Ian.

Surprised this sad news has not been posted in Silver, since Ian was active there. I'd like to suggest that a link or a post be placed there as well, since some of us no longer follow F1 now that it has become a virtual spec series.

    RIP, Fast_ian.

Ian was a client and a friend. We met when I was shop foreman at a Ferrari dealer and he had at the time a 355. We spent considerable time at the bar during various FCA events consuming gin and got to know each other quite well. He later had a 360 Spider and in that he took the longest off road excursion at Thunder Hill Raceway I have ever seen. He nearly made it to the boundary fence before the car stopped sliding. It even slid sideways through a considerable drainage ditch in the process leaving us all to wonder why the car did not roll. It went through a barbed wire fence and collected a considerable length of that. I went with the tow truck to retrieve his car and Ian had to show us the way because it was so far off track we had trouble finding it. We got tired of stopping him and finally just let him drive track events in his sandals. It was just easier.

For those that do not know, Ian was a Brit. In his younger days as I recall raced F3 and worked in the shop for Brabbham. He was a pretty good driver.

I know no more than anyone here what happened. I knew his girlfriend but have no way to contact her.

    RIP Ian

    Thanks for that Brian.

Yes, it came thru in his posts, his nationality.
He also made sure I read the Sid Watkins book, which was hugely interesting.
    He sent it to me.

I would think the ME still has him, as it's quite the effort to transport that kind of freight..
    :( :(

A shame, if he ends up in Potter's Field.

Shocking news, I'm truly sad :( Ian was such a great guy, we talked a lot about the stuff I am doing and he was always very curious and interested...I enjoyed his storys from the old racing days so much and I really looked forward to meeting him one day. Devastating! :(
