Its a no brainer to involve Ferrari directly on high end examples such as yours. I wonder how many bare chassis they still actually have in storage of the various modern supercars they produced, I bet that is a sight to see.

I imagine the factory would have kittens if I asked them to assess my own little project! :)

My guess is that probably don't have too many in stock.

F50's carbon tub was engineered by Cytec Aerospace. They are still able to provide items if necessary.

Will have to give them a google, thanks.

Eurospares had a 348 and Testarossa new bare chassis for sale a while back, circa £15k I think. Dread to imagine what a carbon tub for an F50 would retail at!

    edit

Quite reasonable actually given the going rate of complete examples

As I have discovered with F40 panels, the original manufacturers are often still technically able to produce the items, but the Ferrari licensing prevents direct transactions. Ferrari itself doesn't appear to have F50 chassis in stock, and the pricing on the spare parts catalogue is almost certainly irrelevant.

It turns out that even for the LaF coupe, there are no spare tubs available. A recently crashed one from the Dolomites is heading for an autoclave repair.

Yes, you're completely and absolutely right. But I do think that upon request (and payment) Ferrari can ask Cytec to mold a brand new F50 tub and number it with original data. I've no proof in hand right now but I think I remember they did exactly that with at least one F50 owner.
Don't remember if 103494 (FBI car) had the tub damaged but Ferrari filed a repair bill of ca 715000$.

That makes total sense, as I am sure Ferrari would prefer to keep an limited edition on the road - and profitably so. Interesting to note that the tub cost you mention is well in excess of the launch price of £330k (US$525k at the time) in the UK!

I heard (but not sure) that the LaF tub repair bill runs to EUR700k, and that's not even a new tub.

Firing up out of date technology one at a time now will always be more expensive when they are made in period in bulk batches at a time. Plus if something was done poorly at the time, it would be hard to refrain from improving it to a degree with current standards.

I got to spend an hour admiring a f50 and 288 GTO today. The f50 has a high level maturity in it that I haven't seen before. I imagine due to the "crudeness" of the f40, Ferrari really stepped up their game in terms of refinement for the f50. I wonder if the enzo is a mix of both like the f12 being a mix of the 599 and 550?

Behind the wheel, the Enzo is feels much closer to an evolution of F50 with NA V12 but with leap forward on transmission than an 288/F40 re-imagined in 2002. I am sure there are others here who will have a more in-depth perspective.

Thanks. Never considered the transmission aspect.

That is quite a lot of F50s here then. I can think of 5 from the top of my head.

Wow, 5 is a lot. Central Illinois is surprising, usually they are in the Chicago area. I have heard there is a gentleman in the Decatur area who owns one, not sure if that is true. I know himself/family has a McLaren and other nice cars, so it is possible.

Does a Ferrari F40 drive better than a Ferrari F50?

Does anyone know the value for the following original F50 items:
    - both toolkits
    - wheel nut in Schedoni case
    - two luggage pieces (red colour)

    Many thanks.

No I took my 250 Cab, after driving 1000 miles back from the south of France the day before (removing the dead flies from the grill in the morning before heading over...)
