I think at present there is little doubt that she landed on Nikomororu. It's finding the definitive proof, some article that can incontrovertibly be linked to her, that remains. The plane would be cool, any part of it. Her body would be best. Or Noonans, which is likely buried.
The aluminum piece found on the island could have been the window patch seen in photos of the plane. https://tighar.org/Projects/Earhart/Archives/Research/Bulletins/73_StepbyStep/73_StepbyStep_2.html The engine story is also interesting. https://tighar.org/Publications/TTracks/13_1/cantonengine.html There is also a report of human remains being found on the island in 1940. "in October 1940 Gallagher, a licensed pilot, had radioed his superiors in Fiji to inform them he believed a work party of Gilbertese colonists on Nikumaroro had found a sextant box along with the skeletal remains possibly belonging to Amelia Earhart" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Gallagher
I disagree. There has been no definitive evidence she landed there but lots of evidence that TIGHAR is finding bits and pieces and molding them to support their theory. They'll never figure it out.
There are alternative theories: EARHART'S ELECTRA: Eyewitness Accounts of What Happened to Amelia Earhart's Plane If the Saipan theory is correct, it shouldn't be that hard to find the plane.
Hey did they ever find that there Malaysia jet that went off the rails? With all of our advanced technology? I haven't been following it......
They found some pieces of MH370. But if you were being sarcastic, then you didn't watch the videos. The Army guys were saying that her plane was buried right off the end of the runway, in a specific spot. That's why I said that IF the theory was true, it shouldn't be too hard to find the plane.
Should be easy to discredit if all they need to do is hit the runway with a metal detector or shovel. They're also claiming her suitcase was found there during WWII. Where's the proof? Doesn't exist. More BS.
Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. But they sure do have a lot of witnesses ! With regards to Aslito Field, there were many photos taken of the field, and hangars as the US forces invaded. And none of them show a Lockheed Electra. You would think that would be a hard thing to miss. It is interesting that Howland is about half way between Mili, and Gardner. IMO, the artifacts found on Gardner by TIGHAR, are compelling. What explanation would there be for American made female cosmetic products, from the 1930s, to be on that island in the middle of nowhere ? It may also be that there is some truth to both theories. What if Earhart did crash on Gardner, but was abducted by the Japanese there, and not from Mili ?
All discredited decades ago: A Theory That Won't Fly? : East Coast experts say they solved the Amelia Earhart mystery. But a West Coast group thinks not. - latimes
That's an old article. What they are saying basically is that the found piece of aluminum was not a Lockheed OEM part. However, a few years ago pictures emerged of a patch job where a window once existed, that may have broken during a hard landing. So that piece MAY HAVE have been something that was added to the plane. Where Amelia Earhart Plane Fragment Came From: Photos What is your theory on how the American made female cosmetic products made in the 1930's got to the island ? And also the 1930's shoes ? I find those artifacts more compelling than the aluminum piece. Amelia Earhart: 'Beauty kit' found on desert island in Pacific | Daily Mail Online
That is the piece of metal in question they found it in 1991. There's crap all over that island. Nothing conclusive has ever been found there. There's also radio evidence which shows they were much closer to Howland when they disappeared.
That's certainly true...nothing conclusive. But the more peripheral evidence is found there, such as the medicine bottle cap identical to one known to have been carried by her at times, the 1937 rouge fragments and compac mirror fragments, smashed pocket knife fragments that date from '35-36 with no blades recovered, and more all make Gardner a distinct possibility. Some things have been ruled out...the shoe sole for example. The body...who knows, as it's gone. Noonan's should be there, somewhere. As should parts of the plane that should survive such as engine cores, etc. So, the game is still afoot. It's really cool, I think. Someone will find it eventually.
Uh, oh. We're quoting the Daily Mail about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart? That's Bigfoot and UFO territory. Matt
May have crashed thousands of miles away and those relevant things washed up on the island ... Smiles, In a weak moment a week or so ago I watched a program on discovering Bigfoot and while they were out investigating they apparently heard one, but then the program ended with them saying "yes we'll definitely have to come back here one day" ... lol, what a crock of shet . Honestly any sane or remotely intelligent person would have stayed and completed their investigation but because we and they know there is no such thing, they have to leave their investigations incomplete. Pete
Apparently, there is a Bigfoot connection... https://seesdifferent.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/bigfoot-expert-claims-to-have-located-amelia-earhart/
At this point it is clear that TIGHAR's strategy is: 1. To recycle information every 12-18 months 2. Fundraise off the info so Richard Gillespie gets paid 3. Make another trip to Gardner if they have a good year fundraising 4. Repeat
Hey, that's free enterprise! It's probably safe to say that the people donating money to TIGHAR didn't need it anyway. And I believe the Mili camp is also trying to get donations for scavenger hunts. The rest of us, and Jay Leno would rather spend our money on cars. No one is putting a gun to anyone's head, except the IRS. The Canton Engine The Canton Engine If you look at Canton (Kanton) with Google Earth, it doesn't look like it would be that hard to find a buried engine, if you knew where to look (as this guy claims).
And this is the problem with all of these "research" missions, all talk and not enough actually finding things. Just go there and find real hard evidence. Heck might have to invest some of their own $'s ... just like every other venture. Pete
