I am wondering if anyone had any thoughts on either the RR SVR or the CTTS. I am going to get one to go with my FF ( currently have a Panamera Turbo S as my DD, but want an SUV ). I have had cayenne turbos in the past and loved them, as I do my PTTS. I would like to try the SVR but afraid it my be to truck like. Anyone have any thoughts ? Thank you for any input.

I think the RR is very old tech, I would wait for the new Cayenne out next year.

Neither for me - latest tech has to be the Tesla. I decided to transition from my RR Autobiography to the Signature Tesla X P100D 6 seater. 0-60mph 2.9 sec! Arrives later this year. Wifey will just be able to keep up with me in the TDF.....

    Hi.

Last year we picked up a 16 Cayenne Turbo S. We did compare the RR SVR, RR Supercharged, and the new-at-the-time X5M. (We had owned 2 X5M's and one RR previously).

Our short reactions: SVR motor was great, even the RR supercharged was great. However, as an "overall package" the Cayenne 1) drove better 2) handled much, much better 3) to us, was finished better (for us) and updated better (features) than any of the others. Note, those are all personal preference areas....

The Cayenne TTS has a monster engine, though you need to be on it to feel the real beast in there; it's docile when you're just commuting or driving. Handling/chassis balance is amazing for an SUV platform that weights this much. Wheels/tires are gigantic, but they do grip well. CCM brakes are overpowered, using them aggressively is like throwing out an anchor.

Cayenne downsides: much more expensive, typical Porsche high-end car depreciation plummet, and the transmission; it's still an automatic and is the weakest link in the car. A PDK would transform this even further. In contrast, the BMW was cheaper, but felt more like a fast truck; the RR Supercharged is a wonderful vehicle, but is far from being a "driver's car", the SVR was fun, but not particularly sharp or adept as a driver.

Reliability on the Cayenne (28K miles in one year) has been perfect; we had a plastic piece in the cargo area crack and fall off, but that could have been user error. Only unplanned dealer visit was to remove a piece of gravel that wedged between a brake pad and rotor. We put winter tires on and it's very very good on bad surfaces - not as good as the RR with winter tires but 99.9% as good for how we use it (we're race track people, not horse people).

We also have an FF (on #2), it's a great complement.

Drive all of them, see what balances out what you need/want in contrast to the FF.

FWIW, I've owned 7 BMW's in past 10 years (2 X5M's, 2 M3's among them) and candidly BMW's driving dynamics are moving further away from our tastes. RR, well, let's just say the rumors about their reliability are earned for a reason, not disastrous, but you should like your dealer a lot, and around here the RR dealers are just ass_s.

I've had my RR SVR (in Estoril Blue) for about a year and it is my daily driver - have 11k miles on it with no issues. Love it! I used to daily a Lotus Exige followed by an Aston V12 VS. But with 4 kids I needed something bigger.
I've also been on the track with a Cayenne GTS and I must say it handles amazingly well. This is where I feel the Cayenne definitely outshines the SVR. Even though the SVR set the Nurburgring track record for an SUV, it was quickly ousted by the Cayenne T a couple months later. So if you want more power and handling than its the Cayenne.
Despite that, there are nuances that I love about the SVR. It is different. The exhaust sound is the best of any SUV. It has the same V8 engine of the Jag F type, and it has the loud pops and gurgles when the "exhaust" button is on.
The power is certainly enough for an SUV,
and it get up and goes with a nice torque curve.
The interior race seats are awesome. Well designed and super comfortable even on long trips.
Yes tech is a little old and I hate that RR's look so close to Ford Explorers.
But when you're behind the wheel, the drive experience is a kick in the pants. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I'm biased but I have to toss my vote in for an X5M. It's hard to argue with the practicality (and performance for that matter) it offers.

The car pretty much comes fully loaded as-is so you might have some money leftover to buy an M2 compared to the Cayenne Turbo S!

I'm interested in the suspension and driving dynamics. They are still a young company and a taller, heavier car is challenging. The Model S could have been much better.

There are no RHD Tesla X in production yet so I ordered several months ago with no test drive which is somewhat risky. Saw it in action at Goodwood FOS and was very impressed, and I am relying on various other forum reports, videos etc. As this will be replacing my daily Rangie, which is geared towards comfort than handling prowess, then the bar in this area is not set that high. I have 3 kids and regularly transporting other kids, family etc so the S was not an option. Had a Cayenne Turbo S prior to the rangie - very impressive as a high performing SUV that ticks many boxes but again is a 5 seater. If I want to really drive, I have my pick of more appropriate cars in the stable for that purpose.

We are more or less in the same dilemmas. We need two SUV, one small and fun, one 7 seater. We replaced our Cayenne TTS with a Macan turbo, cheaper, more fun and better tech, a very good move if you dont need the extra room in the back. The new 440hp Macan with GTS chassis seems even better.

We now need to replace a 10 year old Q7, we need occasional third row for 10 and 6 year old kids. The only choices are new Q7 (underpowered), Tesla X P90D (range issues especially 5 years down the road, unreliable tech?), Mercedes GLS 63 AMG (expensive for what it is, old chassis and tech) or RR Sport Autobiography (cheaper, nice design and interior, good for winter, but third row big enough?)...

Currently Own Full Size RR Autobiography, coming as a complement to my 991 turbo as a daily, right after owning 14 X5 v8 and 991 CS.
Did also try out the Cayenne Turbo, RR SVR, ....

    Handling: X5 > Cayenne TT > RR SVR> RRA
Overal Comfort: RRA > X5 - Cayenne - SVR (all in the same bunch)
Reliability: Had significant engine issues with the X5s, and deal with suspension mess with RR
    Technology: X5 > Cayenne > RR

Overal, I did not purchase the Cayenne TT as it felt dated to me.
The X5 is the best handling, technology package, but quality is the lesser of them all.
Went with RR as it had the nicest finish and most relaxing drive / room, but my god, the technology is so bad, so slow, so dated, I am close to be willing to part with it.
The SVR though, with its engine noise, could be the funniest of them all.

I use a RR SVR as a daily driver as well as my FF. I genuinely enjoy the SVR and the NA V8 exhaust sound it makes when the valves are opened. It's a VERY fun truck to drive in and it sounds great!

The 2017 RRS is getting a major tech upgrade apparently... Any comments on the third row?

If they are fitting the last system I got to experience in Xj loaner the other day, it will be better, but still dated.

Not in the same category but on our 3rd Acura MDX as a 7 people hauler with top reliability and tech that works. Other choice would be X5 3rd row or Merc GL 3rd row. RR is a dog. Tesla (I have a P90D L) is amazing but range, quality, looks a concern.
