Serie Speciale tail light help needed...

We were able to finish up our first end cap plug so we'll pull a mold off of this, make sure it fits how we want it to, then move on to the right side. Hoping by the end of September to have these things ready to go and parts in hand....

We still have some fitting to do on this one obviously(top edge goes under the top louver on the grille and the whole piece will be sunk in about 1/4") but that's all pretty easy. Getting the contours right was the most time consuming.

Hope to be back on things this week to get these wrapped up and I think we are just going to make the pieces in-house....I've relied on too many outside people for this project which has slowed it down...

 

Made a mold today, this was the first part we pulled. It fit perfectly. We'll finish it out for a proper plug then we make a proper mold....driver's side will be done.

Now we start the whole process for the passenger side....

So after a few weeks of working on this when we get some free hours, we've finished our mold and are starting to run some parts. This is the first set out of the mold as a test...tomorrow we do about 4 layers(this is 1)...then we can get them finished in satin black and it's a done deal(almost...still need to make a mount...but that's easy).

I appreciate all the compliments.....this has been a cool project so far. It's cool to be able to contribute to the community. I hope we can sell a few of these kits....I'll price them out very fairly. I'd be perfectly content if I just cover my costs of the sub-contractors I've used.

Going to be doing real layups next week. Ran out of time today to work on things.

 

And the progress continues....making a few last changes/adjustments and I think we're done. We opted for gelcoated fiberglass end caps instead of carbon...easier to finish and fit. Carbon is fun to play with but not a necessity in this application.

I'm thinking within one month we're going to be ready to be able to offer these things....

And it looks like......this project is done! Finished things last week and got a nice road test in this weekend with it....I think I detected a slight increase in performance as well. Not really. Sure looks cool though.

We're probably going to build these as we get orders(if we get orders?). I might keep one kit on the shelf ready to go. We'll need an OEM grill to make it all happen if somebody wanted it fitted and built, ready to install. A DIY'er can make it happen with their own grill on their own car if they are so inclined...takes a bit of adjusting/fine tuning to make it perfect as each car and each grill is a little different. Kit will be comprised of 2 tail light spacers, center grill section, end caps and extended studs for the tail light housings. Pretty simple.

Hard to believe it took a year to build this....really proud of my tech who studied all of the pics I collected of SS cars and translated them into this. Amazing job. Lucky to have him on my team.

This does not permanently modify the car....just the rear grille and technically, you could probably put the grille back to stock if you needed to.

I've been finding nice grilles for about $700 or so. I kept my stock one that came with the car just in case I wanted to go back....don't think I will though. This is the look I've always liked the most on the 348.
