What is the difference between sport and race mode on the 430?
It shifts faster.... I am also wondering running on "Race Mode" would shorten the clutch life where I hear all different opinions. I run mine 80% on Race mode.. You could feel that it is shifting faster. From the start, clutch engages faster than sports mode the way I feel.
Race also reduces the amount of intervention from the electronic nannies. There is speculation here that the more aggressive shift settings reduce clutch wear as there is less slipping. Have yet to hear/see any proof to support this, but I keep my car in race, or CST Off (scud).

quicker shifts, less tc and stiff suspension. I think it reduce clutch wear, especially from a stop since it engages quicker. I always use race in city driving or at least in stop start driving. If the ride becomes unbearable I switch it back to sport or wet once I get going (softest suspension). Working pretty well I have about 50% clutch left at 28k miles original clutch
Nice aspect of the scud is you can do Race mode and soft suspension. Believe the soft suspension setting is softer than the Sport suspension, but I'd have to confirm that from the owner's manual.
yes VERY jealous of that feature (as well as the rest of the car lol). wish we could do that in regular 430s! I am guessing it puts your suspension in the wet mode setting? I definitely feel the wet mode has softer suspension than sport (but have not confirmed it through any documentation). I feel like it shouldnt be very hard to trick the suspension ECU on the standard 430s to think its in wet mode, but I dont know the details.
I remember the handover of the Scuderias during the first media drives in the UK. The Ferrari rep set the cars to Sport or Race and Bumpy Road, and said they recommended sticking to the Bumpy Road setting in everything except tracks, on UK roads. Control and ride were better. It was magical. Wish my 430 had it. Only McLaren has outdone this magic ride in a supercar with the 650S, as far as I have experienced. Speciale not as refined.
"The RACE mode must only be used on race tracks". That is a pretty strong warning. Would something bad happen if you keep it on RACE mode?
Always drive on the road with the 16M in 'CT' and Schumacher button pushed! Makes you feel alive but you have to be ready, a lazy Sunday drive it isn't. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Also, I think in the F1 cars if you take the rpm to redline Sport mode will shift on its own to the next gear w/o input from the paddle. Race mode will hold the gear even if you hit the limiter.
I kept mine in RACE for over a year. I thought I noticed an improvement in ride quality when I switched back to sport. I was correct.
I use my Ferrari almost every day, and I use all the settings. If you know your car well, and you drive it like it's meant to be driven, you will notice huge differences between all settings. 80% of time I drive in sport mode, quick shifts, decent handling, all round great setting for when you need to accelerate quickly. I use regular driving position when I am out on a Sunday cruise with the Gal, suspension feels butter soft, shifting is light and gentle. Race mode is my favourite though, the shifts are like a trip hammer even for the driver, the suspension is rock solid, you can feel even little wrinkle on the road, you are truly connected to the car, it is the most intoxication feeling. In fact this is what most of the 458/488 owners miss the most, that raw feel that the car is still a dangerous beast. CST FUGETABOUIT this is just pure fun and joy, but please know your driving skill before even attempting to push the 430 in this mode.
