I wanted to introduce myself, I had a 328 and sold it 4 years ago before the prices skyrocketed. I have a handful of cars. Although I loved the design of the 328, I lost interest after 7 years.... Recently I had been on a search for the next Ferrari and I was torn between the 575 the 599 GTB and 430. Frankly I liked the 430 stick I drove, but it wasn't what my heart wanted... I was very unimpressed by the 575 paddle shifter and felt the 599 was an overwhelmingly large car (but will revisit in a few years, because its a bargain right now).... I wanted a classic, but nothing newer than a 328.

Anyway, I saw a 512 BB while looking at a California (new ones look badass) and saw a '90 TR... It got me thinking etc.. The 512BB was out of my comfort zone and decided on the TR. After a ton of research and realizing I should have tackled this concept 4 years ago when prices were crazy low, I finally decided on a '92 512 TR. I drove 4 cars and was shocked at the condition of most for their mileage (they are of course over 25 years old though). 25,000 two owner miles and up to date, dirty, but perfect body and mechanicals.

I pulled the trigger yesterday and couldn't be happier, its a brilliant car. I'm in love :)

I have been trolling for a month reading everything I could about both TR's and 512 TR's, this site has been so resourceful... So I just wanted to say, Thank You!

Congratulations on the new acquisition! I went from a 328 to a 512TR as well, and noticed that gobs of torque is available - just a bit less tossable.

That's amazing that you have only 9 posts since 2004!! I thought I was slacking!

Congrats! I went from a 308GTSi to the 512TR and am still in love with the car 17 years later. Don't be afraid to put the miles on - I am just about at 106,000 now. The engine is as strong as ever and she drives like a dream. Of course I've had to have the gearbox rebuilt twice, though. If you don't have documentation showing that an upgraded differential carrier has been installed make plans to do it - sooner rather than later. Enjoy her!!

    Congrats!

Although a bigger car, the cabin feels just as small as the 308.

Like others have said, the torque and power differential is a tremendous upgrade with the same analogue feel.

Will you do any of your own work, or send it to someone?

Thanks for all the congratulations... This is really an odd feeling, I've acquired a few cars this year and this is so iconic and surreal. Its wild seeing it in my garage, It drives so incredibly well and honestly, I was shocked at how much I enjoy it more than my 328 as well as, how different it is.

This is exactly how I see using her. :)

I agree, its already surpassed what I envisioned. I was very impressed with the single mirror '86 TR I drove a few weeks earlier, this exceeded it.

I am actually shocked to see how long it took for "all" TR's to go up in value, what a hidden gem.

I can see how easy it would be to put miles on this car. First time I've felt this way since I purchased a BMW Z8. What a great cruiser!
