Yes, water not oil temp. B69 shows the sensor.

    Hi Bob,

I found this thread when trying to diagnose my own car's current state. Previously the water and oil gauges never rose beyond 190 and 210 respectively, however now my car has inexplicably replicated the exact temperature increases yours did. I have noticed it is only when in stop start traffic and not whilst out on the open road in clear air.

I saw that you replaced both of the temperature switches/sensors and cleaned the contacts. I will shortly be doing the same.

Did you ever come to a conclusion about what caused your increase in water and oil temperatures?

    Cheers,

    Daisy.

    Update:

Replaced both the temperature switches and it looks like we may have sorted the issue. Stop start driving didn't produce water temp readings higher than 95 degrees celsius (203f), oil 95-100c (203-212f). Both fans functioning correctly.

There is only 1 temperature switch, the one attached to the top of the left hand side radiator? Which sensors did you replace?

Hi I am sorry I didnt see your prior question.

I only replaced the coolant temp sensor on the right side . I did not replace the switch on the left side.

    Everything seems fine now.

Makes sense. That is the temp sensor for the ECU and it is the ECU that decides to turn the right fan on, or not, using that temperature information.

My feeling was that it was the (right side) temp switch for the ecu, but thought I would replace them both while I was there. If it has indeed remedied the issue, I would consider it a very inexpensive fix.

    Guys
Is the Bosch 0280130026 temp sender unit compatible with all 355 models in 96 5.2 cars?

I believe it is the same part for both 2.7 and 5.2 cars.

I know that there is a lot of info on this subject, but I did not find the exact symptoms I have with my fans:
My RHS fan comes in first, at 1 o clock on the temp gauge. (idling , started from cold)
Then occasionally my LHS fan kicks in for a few seconds, and then stops again, to kick in say 30 seconds later for just a few seconds again. It comes up to speed, but then stops.
So I think something is not completely right with the LHS fan system.
    conclusions:
    - the fan/motor itself works, double checked it with 12V directly, no funny sounds, easy operation/rotation.
    - the switch / sensor (?) in the LHS radiator works, as the fan does work for a few seconds. But shouldn't it start before the RHS fan starts? Switch/sensor on its way out?
    - fuses are fine, and I switched the relays to no effect.
Anybody any idea what could cause this?

It could be possible that the thermo switch is coming on to late. But, as long as both fans do come on, I frankly would not worry too much...

I jumped the radiator switch to see if the fan would start right away, which it did.
And started the car again with the connector reconnected. (hoping that the reconnecting-connecting would have helped, naieve of course)
Same story, the right fan kept on turning, while the left in the end also started and of course immediately stopped again, and started and stopped and started etc.
So I better replace that switch as suggested if I am going to do something about it (which indeed is not that necessary)
Is there a Bosch number for it , like with the sensor on the other side?
I do not care if it would start 1 degree earlier or later, so a close alternative would be welcome. I know that even the Ferrari part is not expensive, but It will take at least 10 days to reach me, and I prefer to have it sooner (assuming the bosch part is available easily)

Thanks, but that looks like the rhs sensor, not the lhs switch. Any ideas about the switch?
I can buy the original part for like 20 or 30 usd, but shipping and customs make it a 100 usd part that takes 2 weeks minimum to arrive with me here in the Netherlands...

If you are referring to the LHS radiator switch mounted at the top, I ordered one from Autoropa here in Sweden. Part no. 158655.

If you sit in the car, your left is the car's left, and your right is the car's right. That way it is the same whether your car is American or UK.
