    It is kinda weird that almost every 355 owner I know has little use for a 360, some interest in a 430 and a complete hard-on for a 458. Myself included.

    At some point there will be a white 458 spider next to my 355....just not yet. I hate depreciation. :)

    Count me out on that..I have absolutely no interest in a 360 or 430..The 458 is the best looking car since the 355, but call me crazy the 355 looks better in my opinion

    The 355's is under powered and the ugliest car Ferrari ever made. The 458's comes in second in that category. If my crystal ball is accurate, current 458 owners should open the water gate and dump their car while it's worth something. In the next few years it won't be when the 488 floods the market.

    LoL either my method is too elementary or too deep a thought. But then again I belong to the Pepsi Generation.

    Gentlemen, put down the chair and leave the knife alone. let's not get into a hair pulling contest. No one is suggesting a 355 replacement with another vehicle even Ferrari. It is blasphemy. Read your Ferrari Bible

    458 is a blast to drive! And one of the best looking car sculptures to date. Just wish they were a slightly smaller overall.

    And the problem is? :)

    Not to forget the advantage that if one is in the shop, you still have another toy to play with.

    I have a 308 & 355. Would love a 458 or 488 spider. sadly, the manuals are now passé

    I agree 100%. The 458 or 488 would make a nice addition but not a replacement for a F355.

    Looking over replacement wear parts on the 458 makes me want to keep my "lowly" 348. At least I can afford it (barely). Brakes on a 458? Heh heh, time for a lobotomy. For that kind of money I can get a complete replacement big brake kit for the 348. Clutch on a 458? Heh, you know where that thing is? For the 348, it's a matter of hours getting it out and back in plus a few bucks to have the disk resurfaced locally. Plus I have a replacement I got for 80 bucks. And, I don't need no stinking computer to install and reset the clutch position sensor once it's in.

    Okay, it drives like stink, but come on, you got to be virtually made of greenbacks to support that high-line mistress. There is a reason for their price drop. My prediction is that the 458 will become a better buy than a 430 as a result of the maintenance and parts costs.

    I think if is only recently that dealers could even service the dual clutch trans in the 458. Previously it was replace the trans and send the original back to Ferrari for a rebuild.

    My choice for a 355 replacement would be the 430 over the 360 only because I like the 430 interior better than the 360 though I actually prefer the exterior styling of the 360 a little more.

    But I agree, 458s that aren't CPO with extended warranties will drop like flies.

    Phill, we know the 355's command a certain envy, it is the topic of most conversations that happen here without even mentioning it. So here we are contemplating what ferrari deserves a spot in the garage next to a 355. As you can see, majority consensus favors a 458. But we can't just shoot at the hip, jump the gun or crack open the piggy bank without consulting the brotherhood. So hence, the conversation drags on and appears to suggest future values of certain model. This misconception happens a lot. It's like opening a book and read a page or a chapter and come to a conclusion about the book.

    Remember in grade school we were taught to identify the subject and object of a sentence and all writings in the paragraph connect to the subject directly, passively or objectively! This thread simulate a paragraph. The object of this paragraph are many; 360,430,458, their garage worthiness next to a 355 and maybe their future values. These objects reference to the subject of our conversation which is the 355's. So yes this thread belongs here. But if we were to mistaken the objects of this thread as the subjects, then it belongs in the general topic, the 360, the 430, the 458 sub forum. :)

    If you recall several posts ago our senior member suggested a rule relating to loss of joy by waiting to buy a Ferrari. I've been dramatized ever since. At night I can't sleep. I toss and turn. I had nightmares. Evil numbers replace sheep. I sleep better now that I put those numbers to rest. Hers why. Buy in two years vs buy now with respect to depreciation.

    X= current cost roughly 180k
    K= cost per month wait
    Y= number of year wait
    C= total cost
    D= projected depreciation of 80k in two years

    Buy in two years
    (X-D) + (K)(Y) = C
    (180k-80k) + (1k)(24) = C
    100k + 24k = C
    124k = C

    So the cost of of owing a 458 in two years is projected to be $124,000 including the loss of joy at $1000 a month. If you buy it now, the cost of a 458 is conservatively $180,000. Add those numbers up equate to a saving of $32,000 if you wait two years. Now, the depreciation and current value are conservative estimates at the time of this posting. I also what to add, while the equation makes sense, it doesn't factor in the fact that we are living longer. 60 is the new 50. So if you're 40 years old, you are the new 30. I'm told that I'm 20. I'm just not sure if its a reference to my age or the way I act. In any case waiting two years makes sense economically. :) :) :) Oh almost forgot, all of us have at least a Ferrari in the garage so the extra joy of a second Ferrari is just more icing on the cake. :) The longer the wait, the sweeter it will be. :)

    The best sea foods are bottom feeders; halibuts, crabs, lobsters just to name a few.:)

    The 355's are too precious to beat around town in. The 458's are perfect for that. The 360's are too bubbly for my liking. The air inlet atop the fender of the 430's kinda kills it silhouette.

    I dont see tbe 458 being a $100k car. It's most likely too much car for the money. The 430 was once there but only for a very brief period. A good 430 can be reasonably had for about $110-125k. In a few years, it would probably drop to $90-100k mark. 458 will stay at $135-175k range for a long time.
