+1 billion. Best steak I've had that didn't come from my own backyard. Go for the longest dry aged steak that you think you can stand. I went for the 75 day aged. Th wife had 40 day aged. Both were rib eyes. The beef sashimi on a Himalayan pink salt slab is a great appetizer. The sommelier was outstanding. The bar at the attached hotel is very cool plac to have a drink before hand. Service impeccable - attentive but not intrusive. And, since we were traveling, we had the wife's beater pick up truck, and the valet's still parked it out front, and had it ready to go when we left. Free advice - get early dinner reservations and avoid the rush. It was essentially empty when we got there (IIRC, ca. 6 PM?!?) - we were not hurried along, it was quiet, elegant. First class operation.

BTW, you can take a couple of those steaks home, just ask the waiter...T

I was there in June and the quality of the steak seems to have dropped quite a bit. The Caesar was still good though. I'm not the only one who has had issues recently, see this post:

I like Gibson's on Rush St. The area/atmosphere makes it an attractive choice.

Thanks for the replies, we have reservations at Joes but I was thinking something more true "steakhouse", so I'll be checking these places out.

Capital Grill and Ruth's are not bad. Try them some other time.

While I've never had a bad meal at Gibson's, Morton's, or Lawry's, if you want a classic Chicago steakhouse, Gene & Georgetti's is it. Last of the true independents.

Lived here my whole life and eaten at all of them many times.

Chicago Cut for a modern steakhouse. It is the absolute best and a Chicago original and you cannot be disappointed. If you want real old school, I would go for the Chicago Chop House. It's a real Chicago Classic and great experience in that sense.

G&Gs is also very Chicago classic, but I just don't think it's as good as the others especially if they don't know you. Gibsons is a pickup scene for old men, and the steaks are the most overrated in the city. Capital Grille, Ruths, and even Mortons are chains and I wouldn't recommend them for that reason...can get them anywhere and they are all the same.

Not exactly what you're looking for but my favorite Chicago steak is the filet at Tango Sur in Lakeview. Cheap and zero tourist.

I have lived in the Chicago proper for 10+ years and have 5 kids. You have several very good options - my hunch is that you and your daughter may want a bit of ambiance along with a great steak...

Gibson's - may be too loud and adult for your occasion (great steak, menu, location, etc.)
G&G - may be too quiet and no ambiance at all.

I would therefore suggest Chicago Cut or RPM Steak.

I'd lean towards RPM as well. Also I think they still give away cotton candy which even as a 32 year old still makes me excited.
