Exactly. Some of the questions I am getting on my 458 for sale I am wondering if they can afford it to start with?

I put almost 7k miles on my Ferrari since April, I dont care about miles.

+1. I have 11,000+ on my 458. 9,500+ on f430 spider. I'm sure it will have significant impact on my trade in value but I bought it to drive it and im aware of that. I have no issues driving it to work or to get groceries like a regular car. To me it's like going on vacation. We go on vacation many times a year and its 100% depreciation but the experience was worth the cost. There is a saying that some people would rather "live rich than die rich" Also, I am not so concerned about upholding resale so that I can get the next car. I don't even know what that next car will be. If I keep worrying about the future I won't be able to enjoy the present. Unfortunately some Ferrari owners might fall into that category.

Have over 25k miles on my 2012 458 spider. It had 851 miles on it when l purchaes in March 2015. Try to drive the car every day, but there is about 6 months a year the car is in storage due to snow. So that's about 7k a year which is about the mileage my Mich pilot super sports need to be replaced.

I have had my 488 for over 4 months - and only have 400 miles on it. I am purposely keeping the miles low - I have a 488 Spider on order and will trade the coupe in when it shows up - I can tell you that the 488 is a phenomenal car in every way

This question comes up from time to time. I think there's no one right answer for everyone. Some people drive them everywhere. Some just look at them. I used to think it was criminal to not drive these cars every chance you get- and drive them hard. But now, I've come to the conclusion the right way to use these cars is however it gives you satisfaction.

It depends on your personality, how much of a money hoarder you are. How frivolous, how wasteful etc.

There are those who say don't buy an exotic car unless you have a net worth of 500M+ and can afford to lose $500K without blinking an eye.

Then there are those who think you should have a liquidity of $5M+ Before you go out and do something stupid like buying a used exotic and driving it.

Then you have the 40-some year old who saved for 10 years and bought himself a used exotic using most of his savings. It happens.

I got my first exotic when I was in my mid 20s. A gallardo. I nearly wiped out my savings account but it was all worth it. Today I'm in a totally different financial position, and far more conservative but looking back I don't regret anything. Having it while I was that young was amazing. Girls... I sold the car some 4 years later for nearly the same I spent on it. Worked out well. I could have bought a brand new gallardo, and lost $100K.

I'm not a fan of throwing money out the window on things that aren't permanent and/or appreciating assets, whether it's for an expensive dinner, a pair of expensive clothes, expensive hotels etc. that's just my personality. Consequently I am careful with my car purchases. They are my biggest waste of money, even though I try to buy them when they've depreciated enough that I'm comfortable with the loss I will take if I put a lot of miles on it. It's not that I can't afford to buy new cars, I just don't see the value in it, relative to those a few years old with some minor wear.

Everybody's different, though. Some people spend their money like tomorrow is their last day on earth. We never know. The only thing we know for sure is the present, but statistically we are likely to live a while, so I plan accordingly :)

I say if you are OK psychologically (and financially of course) losing $100-150K over 5 years just forget about counting miles and just drive it. But... That's about 10 really nice vacations for two :) that's how I think about it anyway. It's entirely possible to buy an exotic, put some 10K miles on it and lose less than $20K over a few years. To me that's money better spent, regardless of income and net worth.

Just out of curiosity, (obviously we all choose to do what we do with our own toys) but when you get your 488 spider, will you also keep the miles low in preparation for the 488 speciale or next v8 Ferrari?

I know people with 918 or p1 that drive 100 miles per year. People have different preferences.

I've never thought about it that way. This is a really good way to cognitively reappraise the situation when it comes to driving these cars.

So that comes out to $1.97 a mile in extra depreciation. I was thinking it was more along the lines of $5 but this is great news! Just for comparison: Rolls Royce charges $2.50 a mile on leases for excess mileage.

Sometimes when I'm doing some very spirited driving I start having fears that this will exactly happen. Around the corner I'm expecting the highway patrol or the local police with a Stalker laser in their hand pointed right at my bumper for an easy kill. It really saps the fun out of it and the fact that Ferrari voids your warranty if you track the car really restricts the use cases.

I am a firm believer of this also. Just go to the Ferrari California sub-forum and see the 2010-2012 cars with 5,000 miles having their ECU sensor being replaced or full transmission rebuilds costing upwards of 25k+

Are you certain that this is true? I've never heard this from my dealer. Also, Ferrari North America is inviting owners to run laps at Daytona for the Ferrari Finali Mondiali in early December.

"Ferrari voids your warranty if you track the car" What!?! Is this really true? Why make a Speciale made for tracking and then void your warranty if you track it? Tell me it isn't so!

My 488 is now 7 months with 1500km on the counter. I stil try to hang on to that 'brand new' status it has. Soon or late I use the car as a semi work horse, but until then he can enjoy his garage queen life. Ferrari include a pyjama and a charger for this purpose ;-)

My 911 Turbo didn't saw rain his first year, after that the car was used without limits. And for rides with some social impact we still use the Fiat 500C.
Resale value is no real priority, neither I do care how many miles it does.

I have my 488 since October last year and now with 7'000 kms on the clock. Mostly on weekend drives, holidays and trackdays - that means only for the fun of it!!!

The 488 being a regular model will not be a collectors car in the future - therefore, drive the hell out of it...

I know it is pathetic to drive the 488 so little - but here are the excuses. 1, i am out of town most of the entire summer, so the car just sits in those months. 2, right now I am in a temporary house as we have our new home under construction, so the car isn't just waiting in the garage to be driven. 3, I have other cars. 4,If I am going to dinner, and plan on having drinks - then I don't drive the F -

the spider should show up in December, so not sure how many days of good driving opportunities i'll have until march or so.
