The other weekend I went to a car show where they had a 458 and 488 side by side. I have to say as far as looks go, I still prefer the 458 and especially the speciale, but the 488 is def a good looking car. The engine is nothing impressive to look at like the 458 but its not bad either. I don't know if I was a fan of the rear of the 488, it seemed more bubbly. I actually liked the side vents. But overall the 458 just seems to flow better and have better lines. Just thought I share my thoughts on the looks.

Definitely subjective. I actually prefer the rear of the 488 but don't really like the side profile as much.

I like the front of the 488 better and the side scoops give it some retro flavor.

But to me they really aren't a whole lot different.

I agree with you. But maybe its because I own a 458. If I owned a 488 I might feel differently. Not trying to be funny. I wonder how much that influences one's opinion.

I find parts of each better. Front bumper area the 458 is better. 488 hood is better. The rear the 488 takes it. The 458 has a better look straight on from the side. The 488 is better in 3/4 view to me (those intake vents). Stance is better on the 488 stock vs stock.

I did a scientific analysis, crunched some numbers, did some 3D studies and concluded the 458 IS better looking. Not subjective :-j

I am not bias because I don't own one. Should I say I can not afford one.

the problem with the speciale is the hood - the "nostrils", especially from standing by the side, really break up the flow. PF was not responsible and it shows....

I recently saw a 458 Spider and 488 Spider side by side for the first time. I felt like the 458 looked a bit dated by comparison. I prefer the majority of the design changes in the 488, except that I really miss the triple tail pipe in the middle.

I do love the 488, and I can't wait to get mine, but I do agree that I preferred the triple exhaust pipes. They added a certain aggression. Still, the 488 looks incredible to me.

If I'm 100% honest, and this is coming from someone who owns a 458... I think the 488 is better looking. The sides and front for sure. The rear is nice on both. I don't think the 458 is the prettiest car to look at. When I see it from behind I always am in awe of its looks, but then as I start walking around it, looking at it from different angles, I realize I have issues with its aesthetics. I find the front too "kind" and rounded. The profile looks a little plain with not too many lines and no accent details. I realize this is a design preference and a pininfarina trademark but it doesn't appeal to me as much as the air intakes on the 488, which ironically are there because of the turbo which is the reason I'm not entertaining an upgrade. If the 488 was a N/A v8 / hybrid with an electric booster instead of the turbos I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

Very interesting take, given that many consider the 458 one of the most beautiful Ferrari designs ever. As much as I do appreciate the car, I totally agree with you. There was always something missing, which is why I was so excited when the 488 was revealed. Ferrari did precisely what I had hoped they would with the look, particularly with the side air intakes. Not since the 355 have been that excited by Ferrari 's eight cylinder.
