Great to have my GTB back, looking lovely after its bare metal paint job and general renovation. Took it for a good long drive today, first time it's been driven properly for 25 years and first time I've driven the car too! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Don't get me started! The original plan was just to have a mechanical refresh and clean up and repaint chassis, rebuilt the steering rack, replated all metal parts etc etc, but this took about 8 months and then when I went to collect it I decided to go the full hog and have a respray, but the paint shop decided to take the whole car back to bare metal and this took a very very very long time! I opted for the slow burn to get the job done cost effectively, but didn't realise it would take this long. I hadn't even driven the car before it went to Keys Motorsport at Silverstone.

Anyway it's finally done and was well worth the wait. It drove fantastically today, totally smooth engine and sounds very crisp. The car feels brand new, but it's really low mileage and has spent it whole life in Jersey where the speed limit is 40mph!

Azzurro rocks on a 308! And yes I am partial. :D Great to see it complete. Looks very nice! You will notice and enjoy how different that color can look in different lighting. Congrats!

    Congratulations, it looks fantastic!

My car was delivered in Jersey too, but I don't know when it was exported to Canada. I have the stamped warranty book from the Jersey delivery in September 1984, but no other documentation until 2000.

I'm so sorry to hear this, when dealing with colorblind paint folk they often can't quite tell between Rosso and, well, blue. How will you convince them to repaint it?

It's fantastic and worth the wait!

You will note that they decided upon themselves to delete the passenger side wing mirror. It did have one when i dropped it off now it's in a box of spare parts. He said its correct to only have a mirror on the drivers side, does anyone know for sure? He said he'd fit it if I wanted.

It's my understanding they came from the factory with a single mirror, but Maranello Concessionaires here in the UK fitted a second on the passenger side as an option. Have to say it's pretty useless when put in that exact opposite position so I'd try to live without it if I were you. Car looks great, well worth the wait and expense I'm sure!

I'd disagree with that. I use both wing mirrors.

Really great looking car & congrats on getting her done before the nights draw in :)

That's helpful thanks, I have all the Maranello paperwork and there's no mention of the mirror being added, only mentions A/C and wide wheels as options.

May as well leave it single then.

Well, they'd surely only be mirrored, if you get what I mean :) I think you can get away without, à la Countach or 512 BB. But as well as using it out on the road, I find it handy when reversing into tight spaces like manoeuvring in and out of garages.

Don't want to go off topic especially one on such a great car, but just to try to explain again what I mean. The 308 wasn't designed with door mirrors on either side, so if you add another diametrically opposite as the dealers did it won't give you a good field of view, especially as the Vitaloni California is so small with little adjustment. If you imagine sitting behind the steering wheel you look into the drivers door mirror at say 45 degrees, look across the car to a mirror in the same position on the passenger door and you are looking in much more acutely and the mirror won't replicate the same field of view.

Ferrari got round this problem on the subsequent 288 GTO for instance by positioning the two mirrors asymmetrically.....

How true that statement is. My '83 308 GTS QV is Azzurro and it is an amazing color. Not many around in this color. I searched two years to find mine.

This is true. When I challenged the man who made the decision to remove the passenger side mirror, he made me sit in the drivers seat and held the mirror in place on the door... I couldn't even see the mirror let alone see what was behind me.
