I've kept my 612, FF and now F430 outside all year round. I even left my Maser GT at the airport car park for 2 weeks. The paintwork is very resilient if you have a good wash regime and clean up any bird poop you see straight away. I've just had Andrew at Bellissimoto apply GTechniq crystal serum to the Maserati so it should be withstand the elements and retain a more swirl free appearance. Worth doing something like this or get an (bi)annual detail. Only thing I would say about parking outdoors is that the drain points (around the windscreen) do collect leaf debris and you may get the occasional spider web. A mate of mine says there's a 458 Speciale parked on the street near his flat. I would be more weary keeping a pre-360 era car outdoors all year round.
Yes the birds can be a menace so that is something to watch, but as Michael says, these are robust cars. Others on the forum have suggested that the paintwork on cars kept outside will deteriorate, and they will be less valuable come trade-in. That has not been my experience - I have traded a California and a 458 both to main dealers and no-one has blinked an eye. Best to all.
Also, I always make sure I eat at least once a week in the car. . One time I dropped a crumb and the seat blew up, but other than that it's been fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same here...hoping he will come back and comment. But..I suspect he was serious. Enzo wouldn't have cared if you raised goats in one of his cars as long as you paid him. Btw...who gives a crap what Enzo would have thought? He isn't some "Car Deity" we should look to for spiritual guidance...far from it. When in South Kensington (London) I was impressed by all the Ferraris parked on the streets. I wasn't concerned about the weather I was more concerned for the owners with regards to others having careless parking manners and the costs of damage. When standing outside waiting to get into a restaurant with my sons we passed the time watching the parade of beautiful cars...dozens upon dozens. Interestingly, one car got quite a bit of attention..a seemingly pristine bright red 1965-66 Mustang fastback...gorgeous car...driver was grinning ear-to-ear.
I won't even park my Ferraris outside if there's a chance the temperature will drop below the dew point. I don't want any of that wet liquidy stuff on my cars :-j
Reading all of these posts, I have come to a conclusion that the thought process is very different depending on where you live. If you live on the west coast in the US you probably look at rain the way we look at snow here in the UK. I.e. You don't get it much and it's nasty when you get it! The reality is that the late model F cars are very hardy and can quite easily live outside as some have already posted. If maintained well and looked after there is no issue. You wouldn't however want to leave say a 308 out in the rain, it will leak and it will go rusty ! These late cars are all Ally and plastic and the door and roof seals work! But yes some in the warm climate won't like rain or the very high temps in say Vegas so keep them inside. In my experience UV from sunlight does far more damage to cars than rain, and we don't get that much UV here in the Uk!!!! If only........ Regards Michael
I think you are correct. The weather is ideal in Southern California 95 percent of the time. If you want to drive in the cold or rain, you'd have to wait months for such conditions
It's a US vs UK thing. The question should have just been asked in the UK regional forum. What the op asks for is almost unheard of in the US and quite normal in the UK (at least in London). Contributors from each country have simply expressed their experience.
I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do. I would feel nervous parking it on the street but if that's the norm and people leave the cars alone it's probably ok. I have left my daily driver outside several days in a row now and it's d I r t y.. covered in sand and dust, it looks pretty terrible. The sand from the winds we have been having is taking a toll on the paint. I think my heart would sink if I forgot to garage my Ferrari and came back after a few days of it sitting in my driveway uncovered. I would at the very least get a cover for it but then where do you store the cover when you're driving the car? It becomes a bit of a neusance I'd imagine. At the end of the day if you have no choice maybe it's alright. Maybe you wait until you own a house with a garage? Depends on how important it is for you to own a Ferrari given your situation.
I live in London and see a lot of very expensive cars parked for long times on the streets. It's done but not my thing - Too many careless parkers never mind the elements. I keep my 2016 Cal T under a cover in a garage.
Dont listen to the nay sayers.. It's a car for Gd sakes, you want an investment get a Stradivarius. Until then buy it drive it use it
Parking a 458 outside all year a bad idea? Yes. No way would I leave any nice car or motorcycle of mine outside. But that's just me.
to the question, yes, i was serious. it is not about a reluctance to "drive" / use the car - i put about 5-6k / year on mine - i agree these cars should be driven - am amazed when my dealer told me the number of trades he made with the original tank of gas still in the car - BUT, i HATE door dings or the details of the car not right. Ferraris' are not meant to look like off road vehicles - and the streets in most US cities are not kind. But i also do not walk around with wrinkled suits or have a garage that is full of stuff other than cars. Most is purely subjective, but seeing obvious blemishes would be like a super model with a gash in her cheek - that may be life, just not my life.....those that say what the hell, leave it out the snow, enjoy life are just a little off the grid in my opinion....
hells yeah leave it outside if you want. plenty of exotics parked outside in cities like london as mentioned already. These things depreciate, enjoy the crap out of them,
why does enjoy the car equate with trashing it with dents, chips, etc....why settle. however, IF given ones situation being able to "properly" take care of it, then by all means leave it doors - fully agree that is much better than not enjoying the Ferrari experience, which is the best auto experience out there...
Hey you can always park it in your house, btw thank god we don't have hurricanes in LA LOL Owner Saves His BMW E30 M3 From Hurricane Matthew By Parking It Inside His House
The following image is truly inspirational...some day... http://www.decorationstyle.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/project-contemporary-house-design.jpg
I can't think of a single reason to park my 458 spider or any of my previous Fcars outside. I am reluctant to park the car outside overnight, but have done so only in a safe lighted area at a hotel that didn't have underground parking.
Phil, apparently others on the forum think that if you are not throwing caution and common sense to the wind, you are not really enjoying the car...
