I remember him mostly for driving the NART Ferrari 512M.

Rip tony. He was such a nice guy. He was our guest instructor for arosc.org (socal alfa romeo club) several times. I think sometimes he just looked at us and said to himself, "you guys just don't have it", but he tried to impart his knowledge on us anyway and truly loved being around the sport even at our level. He was a great guy sorry to hear he has past.

So sad. Tony was a friend of mine and one of the truly nice guys. He drove EVERYTHING! Formula cars(winning a championship or two, sedans, sportscars,CanAm stuff. he remains the only man to race both the Ferrari 512 and Porsche 917-his stories about those epic days were something to hear. He was well versed in racing politics that many times stymied his career(tire wars for one) and he knew everyone in the sport.
He was always willing to spend time with fans and incredibly helpful when we collaborated on a few art projects.
He was very recently having a great time running his old Formula A car and was winning vintage races with it when he was diagnosed with cancer. So very sad and he fought his illness with class, courage and grace-just like he raced. R.I.P. my friend.

Sorry to hear this. We are steadily losing many of the principal players in the history of Ferrari in this Country. I had wanted to pull together a few of these drivers for a model-by-model documentary. Just so they could retell some of their funnier or more interesting stories. I always enjoyed his site, though.

    Very well said.

    Rest In Peace, Tony.

I loved his webpage, having been advised of it by fellow chatters.
A great one gone, bench racing in Heaven.

I am so sorry, to those of you lucky enough to know and ride with him!
    I am jealous......Peace.

In addition to his Can-Am and 24 hour race credentials (Le Mans and Daytona). and being a graded FIA driver, IMSA and F5000 Champ, Tony was also a Cannonball veteran. He finished 2nd (driving a Chevy van with five 55 gallon tanks on board so it could run non-stop) in the inaugural and infamous 1971 Cannonball race, beating my driveaway Caddy by a measly nine minutes. Tony was a great all-around race driver, and more importantly a really great guy!

It is so very sad that we lost both Tony and Brock Yates during the same week. Here's a photo of them together at the Portofino Inn immediately after we finished the Cannonball.
