No worries, I won the race. The backmarker did the right thing or he would have separated p2 from me and I would have been bored for the last 2 laps. I tried to put the backmarker between me and p2 as a roadblock. But the lapped racer was too good to be used as a pawn, and p2 was not having it either. That's great racing. Not a guy a lap down racing someone who is 3 seconds faster than him on a 60sec track.
To you... I love the challenge of racing also, but for me it is about winning, not just being out there. That's also what it's about for every competent f1 driver. They want to win GP's and WDC, not say it was challenging passing p20 a lap down to get p11 at the checker.
In Rallying - Yes, because it's one driver at a time, on a course, racing against the clock. In circuit racing, if the only person you're challenging is yourself then you're either in a car with a massive advantage over your rivals way out in the lead, or you're a backmarker who needs to get out of the way of all the other drivers who are challenging each other!
At no point did I comment that I'm not motivated to win It's the way in which one wins that makes a difference, with physical and psychological challenges being most satisfying. Sailing through is dull
Agree What is FFC please? I'm still slight confused by your views, but you are entitled to them of course. Maybe in your series the lapped drivers actually do get out of the way very well and you have not yet had a race compromised?? Yes passing them is a challenge but stupid drivers can make it unnecessarily hard and ruin all your great work, or worse result in expensive damage to your race car! Pete
I'm sure you are; just not as much as some others in my opinion - based on the fact that you enjoy fighting lapped traffic. Lapping someone should be a forgotten detail in a race not a challenging highlight in my opinion. Getting to the point of lapping someone should be difficult unless the series has a big spread in talent or cars, just like qualifying as well. If you were comfortable or it was easy on the way to lapped traffic then something is off. You really should not be particularly comfortable if you are really pushing.

We race in real metal, without Hans devices, and are allowed to duke it out, warts and all. I had higher expectations from this section. If you are Tifosi and ever in the UK, check it out. See ya
I agree. Ive raced carts for quite awhile. No matter the venue, car, track etc..when the flag falls its on. I love it..Its like a drug...I was even thinking of getting an old Miata n dressing it up for some action. Had a Fiat X1/9 years ago. Really fun little car..Wouldve raced that if I had the clams. And it didnt disintegrate b4 my very own eyes.
All races are different...Passing backmarkers can be great fun...unless they block you. And if you are faster..well then..
To those not in the know, the Ferrari Formula Classic series is a UK based, National club series for part time racers (Who apparently do not understand what blue flags are for!), who are members of the Ferrari Owners Club, that is sponsored by Pirelli. So what's at stake if you get held up by a back marker in the FFC? - Not much really. It has very little following outside of the Ferrari Owners Club, there's no recognised World Championship at stake, and no multi Million Dollar rewards to be had, just a bit of FOC one one-upmanship and a trophy/title that no one outside of the FOC really gives a rats rectum about! Looking at the rules and regulations involved (http://www.ferrariclubracing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2016-PFfc-Regs.pdf ), they do state: 2.2 Driving Standards: In pursuit of the encouragement of high driving standards and respect for other competitors, the Series Co-ordinator may instruct any competitor to provide a written account of any incident or occurrence where it is considered there may have been (a) a breach of driving standards and/or (b) behaviour either on or off the track such as to bring the Club or the Series into disrepute and/or (c) any other breach of these Regulations. Based on the highlighted part, I would be surprised if the race organisers would actually be happy about back markers deliberately getting in the way of cars trying to lap them by racing hard against them (Hardly sporting old chap!). In F1, unlike the FFC, the whole of the racing World is watching, along with Millions of fans, there is a prestigious World title and a place in racing history at stake, along with Millions of Dollars in rewards, racing contracts, sponsorship deals and merchandising contracts. So basically, get held up by a back-marker in the FFC and it doesn't really matter as it's a meaningless club racing series. Get held up by a back-marker in F1 and it can change racing history and cost drivers/teams Millions of Dollars due to it being the most important racing series in the World!
Maybe drivers in the FFC do actually get out of the way well so Beau365 has never really been held up or had his race seriously compromised? Because of this Beau365 does not understand what the fuss is all about. I can tell you that even I, at my very low club level back when I was young and financing my own racing, got thoroughly pissed off enough to get out of the car at the end of a race and have a verbal wobble with another driver ... sure there was no WDC at stake or even a plastic trophy but I didn't spend almost a whole year building the car and all my money to not get the most out of every opportunity. IMO if motor racing doesn't get your blood pumping when out there driving, why are you racing? So in your club racing days, you would have still expected back-markers to be blue flagged and get out of your way, just as F1 drivers do, yes? And if they didn't get out of the way then you would become a bit p:censored:ssed off about it, just as F1 drivers do, yes? Now I seriously doubt that the organisers of the FFC turn a blind eye to drivers being lapped, deliberately obstructing and hampering the leading cars by racing them when about to be lapped, as Beau365 suggests (after all, it is the Ferrari Owners Club, and obstructing a competitor looking to lap you is: "Just not cricket old chap!"), but I also suspect that they make a certain allowance for the drivers lack of experience when being lapped. I would also argue that if Beau365 was leading a race and lost the win due to a back-marker holding him up by racing him, then he wouldn't be congratulating the back-marker at the end of the race! The point I was trying to make was, when it comes to blue flags in F1, there is far more at stake World-wide, than there is in a National club racing series for amateur/semi-pro drivers. The FFC is hobby racing at the end of the day. It's taken seriously by those who compete but the repercussions of a back marker holding up the leading drivers is not going to have any real effect in the annals of World Motorsport. In F1 on the other hand, the consequences of a back-marker interfering with lead drivers by ignoring blue flags, or not having blue flags to obey would be massive!

(TBH, My post was supposed to be in support of your thinking as to why races require blue flags and how it is wrong for back-markers to interfere with cars looking to lap them [and I include club racing in that statement], but having re-read it, it does read as though I'm having a bit of a go at you, whilst agreeing with you at the same time! - My apologies for that!)

Oh no, Ross sounds just like Bernie wanting to artificially create interest: "My instinct is that it would be fun to get rid of the blue flags because they created some challenge in the race." AND he was talking about lapping cars ... WTF! These fools, need to do some historic research and understand that the flagging system evolved over a very long period of time for a reason AND F1 needs to have the same rules as all forms of circuit racing. Don´t worry: any attempt to elimitate the blue flags will be scrapped after the mess that it would cause at the Monaco GP.
