Looks like the seats may have been re-covered? I don't see the imprint on the head rest. Not bad... They look soft and comfy Also, looks like quite the stereo installation... Check for damage to the doors, foot well, and wiring. I spent a bunch of time restoring the door panel on my car to get back to the original perforated speaker covers. The big speakers in the doors would loose their grills when the door shut. Other than that it looks beautiful! Get some photos from underneath... That will tell a lot as well... GLWTP Franny p.s. Late to the party as usual... Congrats on the purchase! The 930 is awesome too. Mine shares the garage with an '86 3.2 Cab
I owned a late model F car that had emblems on headrest so i thought the same. But my research showed no headrest emblem on other 308 80's cars. see link below too 308-328.com The leather is original it had touch up work done with dye just recently . I might recover so to get that supple leather back, not sure if dye will hold up and not crack. You are correct re the stereo , in some ways i wish it was period correct. One of my plans is to look at that. Assuming you can convert back door sides etc. The car is going through a thorough PPI by a F car specialist with me present this weekend, he also attended the initial viewings with me. What was great was i connected with the previous long term owner too. Cheers Marc
Hi Marc, Huh! I didn't know that was just a later model thing (mine is an '85). Good to know! For the original speaker grills, I finally ended up getting some scrap leather and a good hole punch. I posted the dimensions here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/513930-speaker-grill-hole-size-spacing.html#post144978574 It all worked out well in the end. I found an older Alpine head unit and installed that along with smaller speakers that would fit. To be honest I haven't turned it on since I installed it Anyhoo, I'm sure you will just love your car! It is fun to go out to the garage and see it sitting there It drives a bit differently than your 930... I think you really love them both. Franny
82 GTSi w/ Horsey on the Headrest from original, and returned that way upon completion of new interior.
You know i stand corrected horsey should be on head rest - ummm. Now i am keen to get PPI done , something feels wrong
I also notices a slight loose fold in the seat leather. Usually, with age leather shrinks... They do look nice and comfy though. Personally I believe the underside of the car tells you more than the upper side Good luck with the PPI. Franny
First of all, it looks like an extremely nice car. Since you are still at the PPI stage, there are a few small things I notice in the photos that I'll cite in case you find the observations useful. - yeah, I believe all headrests had the horsies. So the question at your PPI is if the rest of the leather looks factory or not. New replacement leather is usually a good value-adding thing if it is a perfect match to the factory. - if the leather is not new then it may be redyed. This too is a good thing if done well. The factory used surface dye so this can be pure restoration. It doesn't crack or flake. It looks better over time too since thread soils more quickly than leather and the thread soon looses its dyed look. ... but why are there no horsies?... - ask at the PPI about mileage authetication. Does the engine test good, does the level of wear on the pedals match the odometer, etc. Apparently these odometers are easily doctored. - if there are holes cut in the carpetting for the stereo speakers and you want to remove the speakers, note that exact replacement carpet panels are NLA. You would have to replace the entire carpeting with a carpet kit. These kits are a very close match but the nap is slightly different so you can't just get one piece replaced (I have been searching for used tan factory firewall carpets for my car to no avail to fix an issue with my carpets). - Ask at the PPI about the shift lever. In the dealer photos it seems to be bent. Maybe the 1984s had a bend, but I've never noticed it before. It is a great looking car. I am convinced there is no such thing as a "no issues" car. Every one will have something; getting it the way you want has to be part of the fun. Best wishes with the PPI.
I noticed the dealer posted a new ad on Ebay to sell the car in question. Ferrari 308 | eBay Did you find reasons to step away from the car after all?
Seems Marc gave up on this car now. Have more time and a closer look at the ads. The leather on the seats looks different from the console, both the hue and texture if you look closely. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login 84 QV with 6 digit odometer, is that correct? But either the 5 or 6 digit ones can be tampered easily. New leather for the seats that's used for only 19k is a bit odd. The shift lever, you mean this the backward bend? Image Unavailable, Please Login If so I think it's normal. Image Unavailable, Please Login If you mean the seemed bend to the right... It's odd or just the picture distortions? View attachment 2307032 The tool kit is missing the spark plug wrench, rest is correct for an 84. Also, where is the Warranty book? Perhaps it's missing for a reason? Just some thoughts.
I am now on to another - seems more original. Will post tomorrow . Appreciate all the help here , i nearly wandered off to a Testarossa, but found another 308 😀 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
