Hello all, New member and new Ferrari owner. I recently put an order in for a new 488, and the local Ferrari dealership is quoting an April 2018 delivery date. While there are some used 488's available they are all going for above list, which for me did not make sense. I decided to buy a late model 458 while I wait. I made this purchase knowing that I will be flipping the car in 14 to 18 months. So I found a a pretty well optioned car that I believe was below market price. Although, I will admit my market knowledge is limited. Problem is that is the wrong color. I will arrange a wrap over the winter, and remove it when it comes time to trade it in. Anyway, I wanted to introduce my self and say thanks for all the great threads. I have learnt a lot about the 458 and 488 over the last few weeks reading all the content here. Here are some shots of the car. (excuse the crappy iPhone shots) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wise decision. Congratulations for your new toy, NA engine will depreciate less turbo engines and (in my opinion) bring more emotions particularly without roof.
Hello, No, I have not. Given the long lead time. I only have to lock my order in December 2017. I was told that a test drive would be available next summer, and if I want to keep my 458 I can back out of the 488.
Thanks. Knowing the plan was to keep the 458 for a short time. I tried to find the best deal I could.
For anyone who is interested, these are the options on the car. AFS1 - Adaptive Front Lighting System CALY - Yellow Brakes CIDL - CF driving zones + LEDS CILR - CF Center Console CRS1 - Cruise control DAY1 - Daytona Seats EMPH - Headrest color IPOD - Ipod Installation LOGO - Shields NAVC - Nav system PAC1 - Rear parking camera PAR2 - Parking sensors
congrats bro! yeah def test drive before def ordering one. You never know, you may like the 458 more.
I have a 458, and I think 458 exhaust sounds better than 488, but I never driven the 488 before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Beautiful car! I don;t know much about wrapping a car, but I would make sure (if you didn't already) that it leaves no traces (i.e. does not bond somehow) with the protective wrap that comes with most of these cars.
Congratulations! What color do you want this car to be? I think it looks great in black! The 458 is really amazing. The 488 seems an amazing car in its own right, but you should still get a test drive of the 488 first, just to be sure.
The car already has a full xpel wrap, I might simply put it on top of that one. The film is produced by 3M and is 100% removable without issue. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks. I think I will wrap the 458 in Satin white. I might put a stripe on it. For the 488 I'm leaning towards Silverstone, or Blu Corsa.
10-4, these are the options on the recently purchased 458. I intend to spec the 488 with the goldrake seats.
Looks like you are ordering 488 Spider. The coupe is available sooner, there are even 2 used available. How to drive F car now in Eastern part, I heard it's super cold now. Here in Vancouver, I still open the roof, only wearing bomber.
While looking for my first "exotic" car, I test drove many different brands. All the cars were really nice, but the thing that sold me on the 458 was that while I was driving it felt SO light and responsive. I was looking for a weekend car that I can track about 15 times / season and the Ferrari just felt like a race car, where the Lambo and others did not. The 650s was nice to drive as well. It felt much faster than the 458, but I could not stand looking at the car from the rear. Not to mention that there is a much higher depreciation risk with the P14 coming out soon. All this to say. I have read the MANY threads on exhaust sound between the 458 and 488. To me, while sound is important it is not really a deciding factor. If it was it would be tough to beat the R8 and Huracan.
Correct, 488 Spider. I'm told the wait time for a coupe would be 8 months. Ferrari Quebec actually has a "used" 2016 488 Spider for sale. Problem is they want $20K over list for it. In Montreal the season is over.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the sound quite frankly. Had a 458 Spider, now have a 488 Spider. The sound is just fine in race mode where I always have it I know there's been much concern ad nauseam here about the sound or lack thereof, but you be your own judge. I personally don't have a problem with it
15 track days is a lot for 458 you're planning on flipping. What level do you drive at? Might need new brakes in addition to tires
There is a local lapping club here, that meet every Monday night. So my track days usually consist of three or four 20 minute sessions. Should not be a big deal. Tires, probably. Brakes, I hope not!
Congrats on the car Jeff. I think you'll be pleased with the 488 when it comes time to drive it. I've not driven one yet, but I've heard from people who have that the astronomical performance numbers brought forth by the 488 make for a real treat behind the wheel. It's on the strength of these numbers and the numerous publications that I've placed my faith in Ferrari and am ordering a 488 GTB. I'll be going from a 360 Spider, so it's a pretty big leap for me, but not my first rodeo with Ferrari. I'm looking forward to the different experiences i will have with the coupe relative to a spider. Enjoy the 458 in the interim.
