So let's consider Brawn's ability to earn money. He persuaded Honda in 2008 to give him a fully staffed and operational F1 team and factory, for 1 UKP, and got them to give him some 30 million in addition to run it. He turned around and won the world championship in his one and only year as a team owner, operating on very modest budgets, then sold the team to Mercedes and pocketed perhaps 30 million in the deal. Doesn't know how to earn money?! Disagree, those are very Ecclestone-like dealings!

 

You can put another 100 mill on top of what he sold it for. He did VERY well for himself.

 

Agreed! I was thinking the very same thing when I read the other post. Brawn may not be Bernie rich, but he's done rather well in F1.

 

True, but a new Todt/Brawn working relationship may be a good thing for the sport.

Ross Brawn denies Formula 1 job speculation - BBC Sport


Ross Brawn says he has not accepted any position running Formula 1 under the sport's new owners.

The 61-year-old former Mercedes F1 boss told BBC Sport he was doing some consultancy work for Liberty Media, which is in the process of buying a controlling stake in F1.

But he said the company was not ready to make any definitive job offers.

"Liberty have not got far enough down the road to make any commitments yet," said the Englishman.

"I'm doing a little consulting to help them better understand F1 but that's all."

My thoughts exactly. As to his calm but firm demeanor and approach, I can't help but think of two incidences of him jumping on the Mercedes team radio mid race.

One was at Monza when Schumi was pretty clearly blocking into the chicane, and the team had been warned. "Michael, remember to leave room in Ascari." Blocking stopped.

The other is regarding team orders, and in comparison to Horner. Vettel refused to stop attacking Weber, and Horner told him "Oh come on, Seb, this is silly." Seb held on and passed Weber for the win. Multi 21.

In the same situation, Rosberg was in 2nd place of a 1 - 2 finish behind a teammate that had been told to turn down the engine and conserve fuel, whining to his race engineer about wanting to get past.

Ross got on the radio, "Negative, Nico. Hold position." Nico grumbled a bit but by god he held position.

That's the sort of leadership born of respect that we could use at the top.
