Hi I am new here and i bought a 458 italia, waw what a car.
I drove in the past some other ferraris for a short time, so i do not have really experience
with the various ful consumption. I do not complain about it (of course) but i would want to know from other 458 drivers what is the normal fuel consumption on urban driving, normal
    highway driving + sportsdriving.
In the sales folder you read 20mpg or 14l/100 when normal driving to 14mpg (20l/100)
to sporty driving. I have figures from 14mpg to 9mpg (30l/100) and I find it strange thats
is consuming more then a 430scuderia.
If someone can give his experience so i know nothing is technical wrong with my car.
    Thanks

I get about 14mpg combination of highway/street on non-ethanol 93 octane. My drives are "spirited."

I also get 10 - 14 mpg, whereas with my 360 I got as high as 24 mpg. I assume it is due to the higher power and different gearing (and the fact that I do use the higher power).

United 458 asks a good question about why mpg matters. I think it is hard-wired into me; my dad always checked his mileage every time he filled up (back then we did not have computers; this is where I learned to do long-division!)

In fairly timid driving it probably is capable of somewhat better fuel economy than the 430, due to improvements in fuel efficiency brought about by direct injection and reduced friction. However, when you are hammer down that extra 100 horsepower has to come from somewhere. More power = more fuel consumption. You are also dragging around a heavier car.

Even though it is older tech and probably less efficient per liter than the 458, I'm not surprised a 360 might get better fuel economy on the highway. You only have to use enough fuel to keep 3.6L running as opposed to 4.5. The amount of power needed to drive the car any particular speed is also probably less, due to the 360 being a slightly smaller, lighter car, with smaller, skinnier tires.

Drive it faster you'll get better mileage because the drag coefficient improves with speed and Rolling Friction is less.

Thx spiders , 250 lusso and aeroengineman.
    Good to have a reference.
I got in another thread a comparison with the F355. It is interesting to know that ferrari did a real good job with the direct injection in the 458. The 458 consumes apparently on ly a bit more compared to the F355 on highway, track, frisky roads, with 170hp more and heavier car. So direct injection is really efficient

Remember relativity! If it was a V12, it would do much less mpg! :)

Enjoy the 458, its a beauty.

Also if you drive faster you'll get there quicker so you have to use less fuel!

(I told a guy this some years back and it took me a year to convince him I was kidding!)

I never one calculated it...did the car have some readout for it? Seriously, I didnt see.

Long drive Oregon to SoCal, I think I got 215miles to a tank once. And I vowed to never be that fuel efficient ever again!

Not sure if my FF takes more gas, either way it's tough to get more than 125 miles per tank.
