I'd be willing to bet that the stock US 78-79 cars would have dyno'd 165whp in stock as shipped form. Darrell/4webers and I both managed 181-183whp only after removing the cats, smog pumps, and air box flappers and tweaking the ignition timing well beyond the factory setting.

Oh, and I have Tillman's 328 dyno run too:

I'm guessing stock 328, test pipes, no smog pump, but that is just a guess right now. Tillman will have to confirm.

I found two other 328 dynos at 218.0 and 219.9. They were don't on dynojet dynos but not MY dynojet.

It seems like Ferrari had a pretty consistent motor by the time the 328 rolled around. I see ZERO point in trying to guess the drivetrain loss on a carb'd 308 based on individual dyno results. There is a whole lot more inconsistency between the carburetors and ignition than in the later cars. But the 328 used the same basic transmission, so we can assume the calculated drivetrain loss of the 328 would apply to the early 308.

    1 - (((222.4+218.0+219.9)/3)/270)=18.48%

very interesting, Aaron: thank you very much for sharing!

    ciao

183,8 hp x 1,185 = 218 HP. more or less the Flywheel power measured here in the seventies (with DIN test mode) with a Froude brake (229), for Euro carbed cars.

The math should be 183.8/(1-.185)= 225, so yes even closer.
