Could a kind soul who has access to a crank/engine measure the diameter of the part of the crank that slides into the gearbox (forms an oil seal along with a large o ring)

I have a gearbox here but no crank and need to have an adaptor made to allow a 575 crank to fit.

Appreciate in advance any help :)

    In metric would be great.

    Bit perplexed now?

I measured the hole in the gearbox and it is 110mm approx

Can anyone else do a double check please

I need the exact dimension of the crank end to ensure the o ring seals fully when the crank enters the gearbox

Hey Paul, my suggestion is to post a marked up picture with the exact diameter you are looking for to avoid any confusion.

    :)

Hi Paul, just checked mine, it is exactly 114mm diameter. I have three gearboxes here they are all the same. Cheers

    Thanks guys

    That's more like it :)

Just to confirm as Dave suggested here is a pic of the diameter of the crank section I meant.

Plus one of where it slides into the gearbox to form an oil tight seal.

The gearbox hole has a groove in it with an o ring so that diameter would be slightly larger than the crank end plus its difficult to get an exact diameter for that as the shaft gets in the way.

Hopefully this thread now helps others in the future doing an engine swap into a 355 while retaining the original gearbox.

Just to confirm is the crank end 114mm or the hole in the gearbox?

Actually looking at the photos I have just realised its probably not the crank that forms the oiltight seal with the gearbox hole!

It seems looking at the photos that it is the aluminium ring that surrounds the crank, cast into the block that mates with the o ring in the gearbox end? hence why the crank end is smaller, makes sense now :)

In that case could you please measure the casting on the block, so I know how smaller than 114mm it is to compensate for the o ring.

Apologies for my confusion, I did wonder how that o ring managed to last the friction of the crank.
