In a strange way I almost want Trump to win.
Or at least get so close that it gives the establishment a giant scare.

I've held the view that he'd win for over a year - his support was always stronger and broader than the partisan media was prepared to say.

Like Brexit, it will be doom and gloom for a few weeks then people will calm down and the markets will come back stronger.

    Wes - I think you owe me $10 :)

Yep. Looks like he's got it in the bag now. Hilarious!

No wonder the poor old Left hate voluntary voting.

Listening to the commentary on Foxnews, Trump might actually be a good thing.
But I don't think the rest of the word agrees.

Very civil, conciliatory speech... makes one wonder how much of a 'performance' the past few months have been and what the real outcome will be like?

    Good point.
Strangely I found myself in a city pub surrounded by a bunch of hipster-bearded, craft-beer drinking tossers when his speech was made, and I think even they were surprised at how gracious it was (even if he did forget his running mate).

I'm sure it didn't stop them crying to their Facebook "friends" and furiously preparing their groupthink tweets for next weeks Q & A....

Even though I'm no fan of Trump, this has turned into a most amusing day. :)

    Gee, how strange...

I don't recall a similar reaction when Obama won in 2008.

Aren't these people (The Left) meant to be the "tolerant" ones?

Maybe they should **** off to China or North Korea where they'd be happier.

And now even the stock markets are shrugging this off.

Gee the Lefties must be shaking in their lattes.

Tell your story walking, liars. :)

The speech was a surprise even his expression before he spoke it looked like he was holding back tears.
Who knows maybe from the commentary during the election he's right let's wait and see.

And you think it would have been any different if the outcome were the opposite?

That's not a big issue for "the left" here, if by that you mean liberals, the Democratic Party and independent voters.

Mandatory voting is a total non-starter. Obama ran it up the flagpole a few years ago,and there was ZERO interest in trying to pass a constitutional amendment to mandate it.

That's not how it works here. And to what end? I work at the polls and without mandatory ANYTHING we got 80% participation in my county. That last 20%, based on the election results, mirrored the general registration rolls. So they'd most likely just wash out along with the rest.

And since we use an Electoral College, pushing huge turnouts in states like California or Texas won't change the outcome, it'll just make the lines to vote a little longer.

My only consideration? AS I said to my stepson who was too busy to vote, but now not so busy as to avoid carping about the result, "If you don't vote, you can't *****." Skip out on exercising your constitutionally guaranteed privilege, well ok, but don't tell me the guy who got elected is a criminal, rapist, misogynist ******* if you can't be bothered to get out of bed to vote.

We'll survive. He's an ass, but he's all ours now. gonna be an interesting 4 years.

Nah, he's too old, older than Reagan when he took office, and I really doubt he can keep his effort concentrated on THE USA, and not "THE TRUMP" empire for that long. :D

If I just became the President of the United States Of America I would probably shed a tear or two. :D

What a life Trump has had. Money, women, fame and now the President of the United States.

I am just the son of an immigrant **** kicker who has followed in his Dad's footsteps. :(

The thing is,that with all the frontmen/women of any country...it's the advisers that actually run the joint.
