It will be IMO a shame if Obamacare goes.

Every "first" world country should look after it's population. That is what taxes are for.

you need to do some reading of what Obamacare actually is, not just believe what the left media spins.

As for your second comment, the problem is that the demand for welfare always exceeds the country's ability to pay, the gap is then covered with debt. Politicians bribe voters with more and more entitlement, using borrowed money, the cost borne by future generations.

I had a patient today from the US. Bitten by a spider and went to hospital just in case. They kept him in for 2 days and charged him $14,000. Obamacare picked up $6K, which is better than nothing, but still, these guys are getting screwed.
When I was doing emergency medicine, I'd have had him back on the street in about 3 hrs.

Just saw footage on the news of a guy being beaten up by a bunch of morons yelling
"He voted Trump! He voted Trump!"

Not to mention the nauseating uni student losers blocking the streets and burning flags etc.
What's the bet most of them couldn't be bothered getting out of bed to vote, but no problems turning up to protest.

    F-wits, the lot of them.

    You get it.

My son has mental health issues and the NZ tax system is paying for a lot of his care and I am very grateful for this.

Sick people should not just be swept under the carpet and ignored. In fact I believe that it is cheaper in the long run to look after all people's health than to let them get sick and unable to be able to be part of society.

Shame on America for all those years of ignoring it's on population, wealthy or poor.

Outsider vs. insider point of view.

This was the last gasp for underappreciated, overextended, hyper sensitive middle aged, high school educated white males in the USA. These are the guys who worked their whole lives, and now feel THEY are the minority. They dragged their bubble headed wives with them, and voted overwhelmingly for Trump. It's the last victory for the section of America. The millennials are nipping at their heels. The Baby boomers are retiring, in huge blocks, and won't vote for anyone who won't protect their retirement and social security benefits.

So, middle aged white America, making less than $40K a year just elected a megalomaniacal, misogynistic, philandering, pathological lying BILLIONAIRE to represent their interests.

Do they know that ten years ago, the Donald was a registered Democrat, playing golf (and probably grab ass) with Bill Clinton? that he gave $100K to the Clinton Foundation? If they think he's really their conservative savior, they are in for a rude awakening.

Four years from now, when he's tired of only making $400K a year + perks, he'll head back to Trump tower and we'll get back into the real world.

Oh, and Obamacare? Can't kill it, 25 million VOTERS have it.

Agree but personally think Turnbull is a bit of a muddling say-whatever-he-thinks-the-people-expect-him-to-say person possibly lacking a backbone, er just like a Labor politician.

IMO Australia is still waiting for a real leader to stand up ...

Its quite amusing how the left have so quickly started a narrative that Trump was elected by angry dumb white men. As always with the left media, ignore the facts, go with the feelings.

Fro m the NY Times :
Trump lifted the black vote by 7%, the Latino vote by 8 to 29% and the Asian vote by 11 to 29.
Trump only lifted 1% among whites and Hillary only lifted !% among females.

You couldn't be more wrong. Please read some history, starting with "The New Deal".

The problem with welfare is that over generations it diminishes personal responsibility and builds self-serving bureaucracies that do much more harm than good.

I've just paid a large 5 figure bill for my 87 year old father's cancer operation, which Australia's public health system decided wasn't urgent enough. After a lifetime of service and tax paying, a nobody hospital administrator had power over his life.

Funny how some parents seem to feel obligated to pay for every meal for the rest of their lives. I pay for my father every second time when we go out. Lucky we don't go out much!

Sadly, my father passed away in 1993. I never let my mother pay when we are out.

I don't consider cost effective and basic health care "welfare".

And yes all the best for your father.

Looks like I am in trouble then. :(:(

    Sorry to hear that mate.

My Brother and I pay whatever we can for my Mum and Dad.

Only just yesterday I purchased Dad 12x bags of chook feed and paid his land and water rates for his property in Brisbane. $1200 total yesterday.

The Brother will pay the next lot in 3 months time.

I took my Mum shopping on Thursday morning, paid for her groceries at Coles. She told me not to, but I always do.

Wish him all the best IanB.
