    Hey guys.

I just bought a 2006 612. Blown motor due to hydro-lock. It is going to be a fun re-build!

I received the car on Monday and noticed the hood a trunk struts were too weak to hold up the hood and trunk. Eurospares wants about $400 for the set of four.

I found that the trunk struts for my 1995 Alfa Romeo 164Q are a 100% match for the hood struts on the Scag. And then the weakened struts from the front hood were a perfect match of support for the rear trunk.

So, go on e-bay and buy the TRUNK struts for the Alfa I noted above. About $70 for a pair. Then transfer (or keep) your old hood struts for transfer to the boot! Length and connection nubs were identical!

    Cheers,

    This is good info.

A small amount of wind will cause the Hood on my 612 to close and I've nearly been decapitated a couple of times by the trunk lid, due to week struts.

That is why I keep them closed at all times. If someone asked to see the engine, I usually oblige; but, have to stay there to prevent an unpleasant surprise.

If anyone is in the UK these guys are really good for replacement struts. They walk you through the coding on the struts and make ones to your requirements. I had a pair made for my daughters car and needed them slightly shorter as the tailgate hit an oak beam in the garage. This was no problem.

Thanks for the info. Can u tell us the numbers stamped or printed on the side of the strut? Sometimes you can find the correct pieces in a common auto parts store. I bought struts for my 355 for about $15 each!

If you want to have the original F struts rebuilt, try Strutwise, Surrey, BC. Ask for Frank. They just did mine and are 100% perfect and refurbished. Approx $110.00, including shipping both ways. Took approx 2-3 weeks to do. Good luck! Alex
