1-For those that have done this, which is the best? Any negative results? Positive results? 2-For those that took their pieces off and shipped, did you break anything removing them? Any warnings? 3-Expected refurbishment time? Other advice on this is appreciated, tired of looking like we've been playing with coal!
Not taking anything away from the companies that do this as their results are stunning but I have had great success using Castrol Purple Power cleaner and a toothbrush. So far, I have removed the goo from everything in the car including the HVAC control panel. The only casualty (knock on wood) was the arrow one of the HVAC vents that I had cleaned. The larger components I painted (steering column surround) but the rest I just left their original color. I don't know if this will work in all cases or not, so use your own judgement.
I appreciate this info. Im looking for a DIY solution as well. Not taking anything away from the pro's here, I have no doubt Sticky Rx does a vastly superior job...but Im not sure my car "deserves" it, frankly. Shes a beater, not a pedigreed show girl. So im looking for the next best thing. ive heard of ppl using 70% alcohol as well as oven cleaner, or Goof Off. Id be concerned that some of these may be too aggressive solvents. I may also just strip them off and if it looks bad cover with some carbon fiber decals.
The dealer that sold me my car sent everything inside my car to Sticky No More. I talked to the guy there myself since I paid for his work but the dealer did the removal and replacing as part of our deal. Parts were, of course, perfect when they were done. The guy at SNM, (Robby or Ronnie?) had individual pricing for the parts and was easy to work with. It took about a week for everything to come back. This was a few years ago before there was an aggressive competitor in the market so maybe now things are cheaper! ;-) My suggestion is to not do your front airvents on the windshield. Just let them get to the point where you can mask and wipe them clean in place.
90% isopropyl alcohol and bunch of clean rags. The alcohol won't harm anything. I did my whole interior last weekend in about an hour but didn't take before and after pictures of everything. By the time I thought about taking a before picture I had already done everything except for the right to knobs on the climate control panel but you still get the idea of what it looks like. I did not do the radio as I am replacing it but I did do the window switches the rubbing alcohol at 90% will not harm any Electronics or switches by the way 70% has the possibility to cause problems due to the higher h20 content. 90-99% is what is used to flush electronics that get wet like cell phones that fall in toilets and whatnot to prevent corrosion of the circuit boards. That is not true. Alcohol does a good job at removing the coating if it's already started to fail. But, some parts have laser etched graphics through the black soft touch and when you remove the coating, bye - bye graphics. See these threads: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q/520454-understanding-ferraris-sticky-interiors-technical-guide.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/523672-sticky-rx-mar-chemical-resistant-coating-demonstration.html I started off as a DIY'er too and I respect that choice for many. But, I'd urge you to learn and understand the differences.... - A cleaned part is not a refinished part and while it won't be sticky, the appearance won't be as nice - Refinishing with rattle can products won't have the chemical and mar resistance of a professional coating such as ours. I can totally respect and appreciate that owners have different goals. We cater to folks that what perfection and the most factory correct restoration. What we offer is expensive as the work is very time consuming, the coatings are expensive and the laser is not cheap. YMMV Juan, we are happy to discuss your needs in detail if you wish to email or call. 716-553-6130 dave.lelonek@**********.com Thanks and have a great day
Dave having followed you thread on the other site regarding your fixing and refurbishing of the F355 I will HIGHLY recommend you. My parts on the F430 are starting to get sticky and in the near future I will be contacting you for your expertise. With all due respect to others, I don't understand people who purchase Ferraris and expect to spend Toyota prices for service and repair. Then again to each their own.
I agree with you 100% I'll probably get my inner door handles redone by you in the future, the sticky is gone, but I don't want to "rattle can" them. That being said, Sticky RX would be my first and only choice to have them re-colored and "lock" laser etched.
Robbie at "Sticky No More", trusted and a friend, been doing this for a long time. https://stickynomore.com/?ref=FerrariChat
Thank you, Kim. Much appreciated. I can totally understand folks want to save some money and I respect that. Everyone has different goals so it's cool with me
I chose Dave @ Sticky RX to refinish all 33 sticky interior parts of my 2004 360 Modena. I am a perfectionist and his refinishing and remarking quality, attention to detail, and customer support exceeded my expectations. I recommend him unconditionally. I live in the LA area and had Fast Cars in Redondo Beach perform the R&R of my parts. Lucas (their specialist) did an outstanding job, taking great care of both removal and reinstall (which included a complete function check of all controls). Even with that, there were a few unavoidable clips that broke (a result of age and parts designed more for one time installation). Dave was able to repair most of these; there was only one switch panel that was too far gone, and Dave found an NOS replacement. All in all, I couldn't be more happy with the outcome and experience of my project.
Yes, been doing engine outs forever, full value job, a couple of trans etc so I get it. But the interior parts...is inexcusable! Someone should do a class action, as I understand it is not only Ferrari. Somewhere, you will find some emails, letters about how this helps sell new cars lol. Getting to the price, I've heard from about $2,200-$4,000 plus? Yes, I'll get the quotes.....
To complete it in an hour, and seeing your partially completed temp controls installed, are we to assume you did it all without removing any parts? Never heard of it being done that way. Thanks.
I used Sticky no More on my 360. I was beyond thrilled. Rob guided me through the removal of some of the tougher parts. It was a first class experience.
I am a perfectionist and used Dave at StickyRX because he shares the same passion for these cars and is also a true perfectionist. The parts he refinished on my F-430 were beyond perfect. I don't fault any one for doing their own home refinishing work with brake clean, windex or an other solutions you read about on the net but if you share the passion for these cars and want nothing but the best method to protect your car and hold its value then there is only one choice as far as I am concerned and that's Dave at StickyRX Laser etched graphic and anti mar coatings are superior to what any one else is doing in the refinishing business
This is what I did as well - but my parts were already removed for a dash leather repair. The A/C controls came our perfect but you need to be a little careful with the window switches as rubbing too hard will start to wear away the black finish. Fortunately I discovered this where it wasn't visible after installation. The only other "sticky" parts I have are the inner door handles and wells. The hard part there will the removal and installation - the part that none of the refinishers will perform for you anyway. If I screw up the refinishing I'll send them to Dave. If all goes well, I'll save some money and the kids can eat something other than bread and water.
Much appreciate, Brent Thank you for the support, Dominic Hey Kevin, if you want to ship your car here, we can do that We will be doing the removal / installation of a local 575 this winter and creating some detailed how-to installation videos along the way. And, buy your kids a sandwich at least
I'm not sure that I understand who you are directing this comment to? Can you elaborate on this statement?
I used Sticky no More on my old Stradale parts. They came back perfect. Dealer did the removal and install.
If you are in the Southern California area, Randy at RMT Motorsports did an outstanding Job refinishing mine. I prefer an expert to remove the parts and be a "one Stop" shop. The hard part is the removal and not breaking things due to age.
I have used both vendors that post here frequently several times on multiple Ferrari interiors. I appreciate both of them for what they have done but Sticky RX does produce a higher quality end product.
Correct, I only partially removed the inner door pulls. And the door handle surrounds. I just masked everything off very carefully and went to town.
