    After getting my 308 back from a major service and suffering 2 break downs and many discoveries that are not at all positive here's another. I now have a coolant leak and it seems to be from a hard pipe to hose junction just inside the framework. It's the lower hose that goes, I believe, to the radiator. I can't tell from the parts diagrams if it's right but from what I can see there is no possible way for a hose clamp to be used here.

    I am wondering if something is "non-standard" here and if the hose has somehow slipped into the framework. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

    At 12 o'clock the photo shows a metal pipe going inside a hose that goes to the front of the car. The camera is pointed at the front of the car.

    This is on an 84 308 GTS QV.

    I believe that hose is to protect the aluminum pipe from the chassis opening. The leak is probably from somewhere else

    So you're thinking I might be looking at part 26 in table 18? The leak might be forward of that and migrating to that point?

    Not sure about the diagrams. Or check above the pipe it could be leaking down. Why don't you check all the hose connections. Maybe they need to be snugged

    Agreed, what looks like a hose around the pipe where it enters the tube is just an anti-rattle spacer. No exposure to coolant.

    The aluminum coolant pipe from there is continuous to the front hose connections ahead of the front suspension, no breaks, connections, or leak points - unless the pipe itself has developed a hole, which I haven't heard of.

    Check the hose connections vertically above the pipe shown in the picture, you likely have to remove the firewall heat shield.

    I recall you showed a picture of a fuel line nearing failure? It's a 32 year old car now, any original rubber hoses still present will be due to fail very soon. When I bought my 84 QV 3 years ago, the first big project included replacing EVERY rubber coolant and fuel line (and timing belts, of course ;) )

    GordonC - at this time no visible leaks anywhere that I can see but I will be removing some shielding as you suggest tomorrow. I do have a set of new hoses and it's now on the priority list to replace all the old stock. Thanks...

    A) Anti-vibration rubber sleeve.

    B) Pressurize the cooling system to about 10 psi and check for leaks. Could be up front and runs back the length of the pipe or where that pipe connects to the pipe that runs in front of the passenger's side of the engine which is typically removed during a major to front timing belt.

    It was one of the connections just under the battery area. Pulled the small belly pan and found it. It was the pipe the mechanic removed to drain the radiator. He didn't tighten the hose clamp enough. See new hose clamp.

    All of those hoses and clamps will be replaced.
