Mark, One is the obvious, money! Time is tight so don't have the free time. The big reason is i didnt "love it" as they said. I had fun flying and I still do as a passenger. But the bug to fly is not as strong as I thought. I would gladly fly a little plane here and there (couple of flights a year) but it didn't really push me to move forward and actively look to fly. That's all really.
I think you're right. The road pattern looks right and that looks like a body of water in the distance, which would be Lake Ontario.
It is the only major city in this path that woukd have that sort of water around it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would fly anywhere with you, too, my love. You are the best co-pilot in the world and I am so thankful you like to fly with me.
Last day with great weather so flew the Mustang and PT-19 Getting better at snapping pictures with the phone with one hand while doing aerobatics with the other. I have no idea why the pictures are off 90 degrees Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One of these on a good mount would free that hand and get awesome video as well as stills.. All the while gathering data and you can add instrument overlays and punch button to make final video! https://virb.garmin.com/en-US
Flying the PT-19! That brings back so many good memories from many years ago. Was that you in the rear pit? The PT-19 is solo from the front and I just wondered. It has to be a huge transition to go from the PT-19 to a P-51 or the other way around. I know that you have to fly anything by the numbers and feel but I envy you in having the equipment to do so. The PT-19 was designed to fly more like a heavy fighter and from what I remember , they did have some features in the aerodynamics that would bite you if you weren't doing the right thing at lower speeds. A sure identifier with the over-turn pylon in the picture.
Today was beautiful here. Thanks for sharing! Given my close proximity to a man that collects warbirds, I'm curious as to how close you and I actually are?
The guy in the back is the owner of the Tucano I posted pictures of a while ago. He used to own SuSu and Shangra La before the Tucano. I flew the P-51 first. Now that you mentioned it Bob I just realized I had just gone from 300mph in the Mustang to a max of 85 in the PT-19. I looked at the Virb but I received a GoPro for Xmas. Decided to skip work to fly so I didn't have it with me at the time. I am based at SPI Air Combat Museum | Welcome to the Air Combat Museum, preserving aviation history. Anyone wants a guided tour just let me know
After seeing Worry Bird in your post it triggered my memory of having a ride in her during the B-17 50th Anniversary in 1985. What a thrill that was! I'm pleased that you have my drawing of it in your possession. I remember a cruise speed of 105 for the PT-19 and also a very nice flying airplane but not as much fun as the PT-17. You have two of the prettiest airplanes ever, The Stearman C-3 and the P-51. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just a spectacular drawing, Bob... talent. I remember a classmate in school that could draw somewhat like that (not even close to that well, though). His father was Air Force at Kirland AFB in Albuquerque. Really envied him. In art class he'd maybe draw a Corsair shooting down something... made sound effects as he drew. He was only there one semester, his Dad was transferred.
Big winds here today, expecting some bumps during takeoff. WS529 to Winnipeg for the ATC on here. Wind is 45 to 70km/h is what they are saying. this winter time thing sucks...takeoff in dark every flight. Image Unavailable, Please Login
