It happened out of the blue but the hood won't close. At first the back part lifted up but the canvas part seemed to be pushing the wrong way, in the sense that instead of lifting out it was trying to push itself further into the car!

    I assume it's a sensor issue?

Now it's sort of stuck in a part open position and I am getting a lot of bleeps!

Anyone had any problems with this?

I recorded a video about it if it helps to see the issue:

"Hood" = convertible top. At first I thought it was the engine cover since the front trunk ("boot"?) is usually referred to as a "frunk".

Interesting.. I see that the the sequence is not allowing the top to come up.... have you tried to actuate the switch in the other direction? So the panel is stowed? Or manually help the "hood" compartment panel?

I don't know if it is a standard procedure but I keep the switch engaged until all the lights and bells come to an end. That's what the dealer rep recommended I do.

Based on your knowledge of this car I know that these are obvious things to you. However, back to basics so have you tried doing it with the car running?
    How is the fluid level?

Car needs both to build up fluid pressure to move the rams

haha! Yes, sorry, I foget that hood means something different in the US!

I have tried back and forth but now it's stuck completely and won't go either way. Annoying as it's raining at the moment so I can't even take it to the mechanic to get it sorted!

Thanks for that! I didn't want to do anything else incase I damaged it more!

I will try with the engine fired up and see what happens.

    Thanks for your help.

I think Fred is right - the engine should be running while cycling the top. Cycle it too many times and there will likely not be enough fluid circulating to maintain or create the required pressure.

.. I stopped my top mid-cycle and thought the panel would hydraulically "lock" midway so I could access a fuel pump. The panel s l o w l y let itself down necessitating that it be propped up during the repair.

I believe you are supposed to have the engine on for it to work properly. Let us know how it goes.

If you used water form a water hose with a nozzle it is possible that some water got into some of the sensor. Make sure you check the sensor on the engine lid, that also has a sensor activated by a magnet if that got wet it will prevent the top from opening or closing. As you probably know the top will not work if the engine lid is not closed completely. It is happened to me with the engine lid popped open a got all of those Bips. Perhaps some water got into the switch causing an open signal sent to the ecu. Worth to check it. Use an air dryer on the switch to evaporate the moisture from it. Good luck.

I watched your YouTube video. I have an Alfa Spider with an electric roof which was very similar to an F355 Spider I believe.
They can be troublesome and mine has recently not been opening the clamshell which I do know of a fix. However the last few times it has been fine.

So make sure hydraulics are topped up and I always operate the Alfa's roof with the engine running.
