83 308 QV cranks but won't start

Title says it all.

I parked the car. Went to have a turkey. Came back a few hours later. Car cranks, but won't start. We tried jump starting it. Again, cranked fine, but did not start.

No smell of fuel.

Tomorrow morning, I want to check the fuse for the fuel pump.

Any other ideas as to what could be wrong?

Ha! I was in Saratoga for Thanksgiving today (but not with my '83 308).

If you unplug the connector at the top backside of the CIS unit, when you turn the key to "run" position (not "start" position) you should hear the fuel pump running and pressurizing the system.

I, like you, would put odds on a fuel pump issue since all was fine when you shut the car off.

 

If you can't smell fuel during all this you're not getting fuel, the fuse would be a real easy one, and it may be that simple but the fuel pump is really easy to replace, you will just smell like fuel for a bit.
Last no start issue I worked on was my friends QV, he parked it and the next time he went to drive it was broken.

The front bank refused to run, his was still dumping fuel just no spark on the one bank, I found his was the crankshaft possistion sensor had given up the ghost.

Check that pump they do not last forever.

 

This just happened to me, car was ideling and then just died. No restart, and fuel pump fuse blown. I believe the fuel pump gave up. I removed it and attached a hose hung above with a funnel full of gas and gave it power. All it did was click once and no pumping. Waiting for a new pump.

 

Yup. It was, as I thought, a burnt fuel pump fuse.

I love it when you can solve a problem at a cost of about $1.

And, thanks for the quick and helpful replies. For those of us not handy with a wrench (as in yours truly) the existence of an intelligent, experienced, and helpful community is very reassuring.
