Based on the asking prices I see for gated Fcars, I would almost think at 15-20k for a conversion it's a no-brainer, financially.

I suppose a known-good used F1 transmission would be worth good money, too. That should offset some of the cost.

    The transmissions are the same.

Yup. I thought about that too plus I keep all upgrades on my car. If I purchase a new 360 it would've cost me more for the gated inflation price plus more to add same upgrades again. Even setting aside the cost since I can swap them with the current one I have but the hours of labor I have to spend to take them out and install to the new 360 I'll buy. In short, too mich work and $$ just to sell and buy a gated.

The 360 F1 is really a gated at heart, why not just reveal that through a proper conversion. I get to keep my car that I already customized to my liking plus I get to sell the F1 parts for several thousand $$. That itself will slash my conversion cost by a lot.

This is my approach to this and I think it's a sensible approach.

The transmission is the same; however in any case, other major F1 components like the actuator, pump and TCU (mine is Stradale TCU) will give me at least $3,000 back if I sell them. Plus other little F1 parts I'm anticipating to gain $4,000 back in selling my F1 parts.

If we deduct the cost of the other work the conversion will really cost me around $6,000 only. Below is the deductions

    F1 parts - ($4,000)
Clutch - TOB work ($5,000) <=== My car is due and is included in the $15,000 conversion.
The total deduction above is $9,000. Deduct this to the total conversion price and the net cost to convert my car is just $6,000.

I think $6,000 cost to convert in the wnd of the day is a great deal. I wonder why not much folks take the dive.

Here's my assessmeent through this thread.
    1. F1 fannatic (I did until it cost me some embarassment and hours of waiting for tow truck).
    2. Not due for clutch or TOB <=== The net cost to convert if your clutch is not due is $9,000 after all the deductions.
    3. Didn't thought about selling the F1 parts will give serious $$ back. It may take long but it will sell. Consider it as money in bank.

My advice is if your gonna do it just wait until your due for clutch or TOB work and your conversion net cost will only be $6,000. That is with a reputable shop doing the work for you. Start sourcing parts now so when you due for clutch / TOB you are ready for the conversion.

I hope this all makes sense. This is how I piece things together. Cheers!

So far I hear only a handful who wished to convert and none responded that actually did in this thread.

Very interesting situation when it is known that several folks wanted to convert and a couple who already did. Maybe I'm wrong? In several Ferrari meets folks freely discuss this verbally but maybe here it's a bit of a love and hate relationship to discuss.

Are there anything to worry about when openly discussing the intention to unveil the gated in our F1 or be proud that you already did it? The folks who already did it, what's your feedback?

I hope this will bring out other owners in the woodwork with the same plans or already did it themselves.

Slightly different but there is a thread in the 355 section with a guy who had it done. He had a dealer or mechanic perform the work but the 355 and 360 F1s are fairly similar in the conversion process. Some of the responses there might give you an idea why people don't really come out.

I just sold my F1 360 and bought a gated Gallardo. The gated 360 prices got so high that a gated 360 is worth more than a gated Gallardo, yet an e-gear Gallardo is still worth far more than an F1 360. Go figure.

Yeah I see this criticism with 355s because there are far more gated than F1 for 355s so the value difference between gated and F1 is not much. Therefore, it will be easier to sell the 355F1 and buy a more common 355 gated.

For 360 and even 430 realms it's the opposite. There are far more F1s than gated therefore spiking the value for gated. This means it will be much price gap between F1 and gated cars, This gives more sense (IMHO) for converting a 360 over 355. It's an apples to orange comparison due to the F1 to gated ratio is opposite between these two Ferrari models.

Nevertheless, very good thing you mentioned the 355 thread. Every data is useful at this moment and collaboration. I'm getting close in doing it and statistics or feedback would be appreciated.

Haha, I won't derail this thread with the merits of the two cars. I'll just say they both are equally fun, but the way the pricing has gone, to me, the gated Gallardo became a better value than the gated 360. Just IMO.

The entire idea is whacked, the F430 was designed around the F1 and for some reason lately some people feel an inferior manual transmission is more valuable. Trust me the novelty will wear off. Most that ordered manuals didn't want to pay for an F1 transmission and if you notice the majority of the manuals are the most basic cars out there. They were ordered as manuals mostly for financial reasons. Doing a conversion makes no sense, a complete waste of time and money. In fact most know this but bring the idea up knowing full well they will never attempt it. I guess it does get the forum some activity but nothing of substance.

Take a look at the manuals for sale, most are still out there. No one is paying these stupid prices. It's all hype.

Woah! Somebody got their panties in a bunch. I agree with 430 but 360 its a different story. The consensus with 360 is its made around gated whereas 430 (as you mentioned) is made around F1. Hence, if you look on the subject I selected 360. Yup 360 and not 430.

I see your feedback regarding owners not going through is for 430 so I would agree as well because it's still hasn't been explored BUT. A big BUT, for 360 there are several already out there.

So in summary, this is inquiry for 360 and not 430. Maybe wait till somebody opens up the same inquiry for the 430 IMHO to vent.

Several 360?? How many? 2? Where are they? People love to talk about conversion here, but that's it, all talk. The guy who was selling the parts (and claimed he has done the conversion), where is he? MIA.

This is exactly why I started this thread. Wondering as well. It may have been off track here or there but if you look on the initial posting it is wondering why this isn't talked about much when you see thread here and there about interest and this one below who actually completed it.
    http://www.***********.com/forums/modern-v8s-360-f430/19123-360-f1-conversion-6spd-5.html#/topics/19123?page=5&_k=gd8qwf

You make it sound like owners are scared doing it, I wonder what's your thought about, so refocussing back to my original posting. Why isn't this discussed much when it sounds like something sensible to do to the 360 at least (forget about 430)? Sounds like you've seen all interest and stuff and maybe saw that completed work above. Why isn't it still not much talked about or done?

It's also me paging folks who may have done it that posted the end product like the guy in the posting from another Ferrari community above (***********). This is the exact purpose of this thread.

    1. There are plenty of references in this thread of 430s.
    2. Regardless the thought of converting a 360 is just as senseless when there are plenty out there and the cost difference is minimal.

    Good luck

Plenty manual 360's available so easier to just sell the F1, or buy a manual 360 to begin with...most people know what they want before they purchase...

Please see thread this week titled "Scary F1 behavior"... And any thread about F1 issues in subsequent weeks. It's an early system designed for the track, not the road.

Right and for everyone of those there are 100 that work fine. Yes, it is an early system and personally I would not by a 360 with an F1 and would never consider the pipe dream of a conversion.

This topic about (360) conversion has been discussed a lot here. LOTS of interest. End result - Zero. Like you, I wonder why and don't know the reason why. I'd really be excited to hear about a successful conversion although I have no intention of converting to manual or buying a converted car.

Good luck to you. Btw, your link doesn't work.

There is a successful conversion for the 360 in the other Ferrari forum. It has been mentioned here 2 times. There is lots of interest as you say, but finding the parts is a different story. Drestless got lucky and bought his parts from a friend of mine. I got lucky finding the complete set from a parts place. It could take months and months or longer to find these parts

Its not a pipe dream. Look at post 6, 29 and 30. It's not something somebody just woke up and said it's my dream to convert. Each has it's reason to come-up to this decision, it's more than meets the eye.
