Winter is in full swing in my state and my F430 is in hibernation. It made me think about what minimum temperature people find acceptable for their cars. 50*? 60*? 70*? lower/higher?
I would think mid 50s is ideal for fine wine and fine cars..I think it is a balance of saving energy and keeping your car ...I think humidity is important ...sometimes a dehumidifier that works in cold is also needed depending on area Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
57° most of the time, 65 when I am hanging out in there. Its radiant heat, anymore than 65 will make you sweat.
Humidity is equally important as temp ...anything in 50s or low 60s is good for temp as long you keep it relatively stable but you need the humidity to be somewhere over high 30 to mid 40 ..any lower things crack and dry and anything more than 50 can cause rust /decay So 55 60 degrees and 40 45 relative humidity is good . Radiant heat or baseboard heat is best since hot air systems dry air thus need more humidity added My two cents 😀 Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
What does it matter, it is a 430? Who cares as it will never be a collector's item (unless it is a gated shifter). It is a car, use it, drive the crap out of it and enjoy it. Same with my 360 - it is like preserving your prom date for the next guy to enjoy. Drive the snot out of it as you are not going to make money on a 430 or 360 over time. I could never understand people that buy a 360/430 and either never drive it or preserve it like Walt Disney. Unless you are in Siberia, your garage temp and the utility bill will not matter. Right now, my temp is 32 degrees as the door to the garage is wide open. Just my opinion.
How about just pride of ownership? I drive my car alot, but I also like to keep my things nice. I dont care if it loses its value or not, but I do like my toys to reflect the care I have put into them. I dont drive the snot out of anything. I leave that to my friends that flogg every engine they own, and watch as they repair them. Lastly, I disagree that 360/430s dont make money. I bought mine right and it certainly isnt losing value.
I kept my concour 65 xke in a bubble at a storage facility in Long Isand, NY. 4 seasons of weather, 14 years later, not a spec of rust and the leather & carpets were as new. I drove the car for probably 6k miles in that time frame and it even got caught in some rain. I also have a 308QV (15 years) & a Boxer(3 years) in the same facility, but neither is in a bubble. Both are staying in the same condition as I bought them. IMO, if you have a garage and it's not heated I wouldn't heat it, but if it is great. Now, if I kept a car in Florida and I was leaving it there in the summer months, I would certainly be concerned with the humidity getting to the carpets and leather in my non-climate controlled garage. I do flog all my cars occasionally and don't know why anyone would own a sportscar and wouldn't. Actually, I probably do.
I keep mine at 70 because thats where my bar is and my steam room - it was 10 degrees out last nite Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My car has 32,500 miles and gets an appropriate amount of sports car exercise almost once per week in spring/summer/fall. It also looks like a 10,000 mile car inside and out because I take care of it for both my enjoyment as well as preserving the value of the car. The forecast for the next week includes snow/sleet and 6*F temps. It would be serious neglect in my opinion to expose the car to those temps. In fact, my Michelin pilot super sport tires require temps above 40* or the have a risk of cracking side walls. If your input is "32*" (or lower) that's really all I need to know to compare with other input.
