Hey guys, I'm a Lambo guy and know everything about them. However, this is my first Ferrari and I'll admit I don't know much about them. I know I can launch the newer Lambos numerous times without putting any excessive wear and tear on the clutch - similar to the new porsches. So my question is, how does the FF clutch hold up using the PS button? Thank you for your help.

No idea, I doubt many drag race their FF.

Clutch is the same - no wear regardless of how many times. But, as with other brands, launching places stress in other, unintended, areas of the car - for instance I know of a story where launching dislodged the alternator belt slightly, belt frayed and you can guess the rest. Car was only 2k miles old and left the owners stranded.

Launching puts all kinds of abnormal vibrations and loads through the car, so it's at least worth being aware of that. In general, should be fine.

Do it often and let us know how it goes :)

Seriously, just ask your local service mgr. it's a blast to launch, but not something you need to do regularly to get the car moving fast from a stop IMO.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not going to drag race this car or launch it on a regular basis - just every once in a while. I asked just to make sure I wouldn't have to replace the clutch after launching it 10 or so times.

I have launched my Cali's )all three) and both FF's maybe a dozen times with no issues. Just no need as flooring it works quite well.

That's a good question to think about. So the warranty wouldn't be voided if they hook up the car to diagnostic computer and find out the car has been launched too many times, right?

Earlier this year while looking at a GTR at a Nissan dealership, the service manager there told me that Nissan will void a GTR's warranty even to this day if launch was used. He got the information from the mechanic who has to cover a few dealerships due to being the only one certified by Nissan to handle GTR's. I told them that issue had been resolved and was only a problem with the initial model year. They informed me that's incorrect. They also agreed with me on questioning the utility of having launch control when it cannot be used without voiding the warranty.

I know this is a Ferrari forum and thus the natural bias towards Ferrari, but that was quite a testament to Porsche's quality and durability and hats off to Porsche. Surely Porsche needs to come up with a shooting brake one of these days. I remember Luca, during his speech at Stanford Business School, mentioned about the reliability of Porsche.

I'm guessing the FF/GTC4 can perform the same feat, right?

What Rick said: if what you're after is a dramatic show start, don't use the PS start function. That function is the most effective at actually keeping tires hooked from 0-infinity. For the most fun, as Rick says, just put it into DSC-Off, and rapidly depress the right pedal. All hell breaks loose and grins and giggle abound. Also, the car goes really fast and you'll be in redline before you have a chance to hit the paddle. Have been into the rev limiter too many times to count. Huge grins :)

Why not give it a try and film/report back to us on how it performed.

I'm guessing it would destroy itself in 3....2....1

I went on a test day at Good Wood race track for the F12 last year.
The test was over 2 days in 4 sessions. [ I had one morning session]
I am guessing there was 25 drivers there and maybe 5 cars.
My instructor launched the car and then i did it.
If I worked it out right that's about 40 launch control per car over the 2 days.
I asked the instructor the same question and he said he had done it 100's of times and to do it as much as you like, the F12 was nothing like the 599 that you could only do a few times.
So I would not worry, just make sure the fuzz are not arround when you do it.

Perfect this is the confirmation I was hoping for. I'm assuming the F12 and FF have similar trannys

    This is worrisome.

This is reassuring. Now I feel much better.

He was making a subtle dig, actually, in that talk. Consistent, boring, German, was his wink wink :)

That's okay. It might still be worthwhile since I really live in the middle of nowhere...not a place where you want to break down on the side of the road.
