I've noticed sometimes when I am in auto mode and switch to paddles it doesn't go back into auto mode and stays manual mode. This doesn't happen in my 458. Is this normal?

Also if I don't have my foot on the break when in 1st gear at a stop light, it goes into neutral without warning. 458 will do this to keep clutch from overheating but will warn you with a beep beep. Anyway I'm still learning new quirks everyday:)

IF you wait at the light a long time, it goes to neutral. This can be quicker due to temperature.

What I think you're experiencing may be this (we don't use auto much, if at all)

When you start and drive off, the gearbox is in Auto by default (it's called "Auto Easy Exit" mode, which makes no sense, but whatever...). If you grab a gear with the paddle, the gearbox shifts out of AUTO and into MANUAL mode.

If you're driving and you put the car into AUTO mode, you can manually shift up/down, but the car remains in AUTO mode until you click the AUTO button off; it will stay in manual until you click the AUTO button on.

As for being stopped, you should keep your foot on the brake - whether in N or in gear. If in N, the drivetrain is unloaded, but the car could roll and it's a safety thing. If in gear, on these cars (458/Cali/FF/F12) the brake is also a sensor for the engine and gearbox....so if you're OFF the brake, the car is thinking you are ready to drive; if no throttle or motion, it will put it in neutral to prevent overheating. When your foot is on the brake and car stopped, the car knows you're stopped; brake release then gets it ready to engage.

Example - in launch control, holding the brake is partially about holding the car; the key piece is the brake release, which signals the engine/gearbox to haul ass (since you're already flat on the throttle before launch)

    hope this helps

There must be something wrong with my software then, when I'm on the freeway in auto mode and I start playing with the paddles, sometime it stays in manual and I need to turn it back on auto. Maybe I'm going crazy but this is what it seems is happening.

Mine does the same thing, it seems to depend on how many times it is paddle shifted while the "auto" light flashes.

Mine does this from time to time too. At first I thought I was losing my mind, sure I was already in Auto, but after using the paddles for a while it remains in manual mode. I think it's a bug in the software. Mine is a 2013 build.
