lot 263 seems very very strong
no engine, no gearbox, no interieur

but most all other items are also so much high priced - it is hard for me to believe

 

Can we get info on km or mileage these car have on the clock?
I'd like to know about it for the 86.

 

I know... I had so much high hopes! a lot of bidding - a lot of outpriced.. crazy prices!

I thought the same thing as well. Im thinking mileage was low across the board due to the vastness of the collection and drove prices up. Just a theory.

 

I don't know actually. Thought that as well - but for some cars prices were just too high compared to what you see out there. No idea..

What is a good place to find numbers on a TR? I am looking but prices seem across the board, want to make sure I am not about to overspend.

 

5K-10K miles. $105K+

10K-20K miles. $95K

20K-30K miles. $85K

30K-40K miles. $75K

The rest $65K or less depending on needs.

This was discussed a few pages back, and seeing more recent sales(and no sales) in the classifieds section, seems like a fairly accurate guide.

 

Go to hagerty.com. Their job is insuring classics, so I would trust their numbers.

If you are truly in the market for one of these cars you need to educate yourself extensively and I would say it would be ok to "overspend" on the right car. Being an owner for the past 10 years I find all this discussion about what these cars are worth kind of amusing, most people have no idea what it takes to keep these things in running order and finding a knowledgeable person to work on them is not a simple task. Do yourself a favour and read the forums, there are numerous owners/previous owners willing to answer questions. Good luck finding a car!

 

<$65K??? for >40k miles???

40K miles is very low still for 20+ year car.

I thought they were much more expensive. AM I out of date from reading prices online last year???

 

I am confused?? $800K? It said 225K euro.

The car I was looking at has 31k miles. Drives near perfect except for vibration when braking. And had its last major service 07. Has rock chops and and such. Paint is nice. Mostly original.
Car is a 1990.

 

40k miles for a TR is considered the high end of the mileage spectrum, for sure.

Judging by sales I've seen in the last month, the IAG car sold for 77.5 (with a major done, but like 45,000 miles, wasn't rusted out or anything), and then the black one I was looking at (about 85, but needed work). Both were 1988.5, to be noted. So, high 70's/low 80's for a car that's alright, but either has higher miles or needs a major seems to about where we're at. So, call it "driver quality"?

Here on FCHAT 40k miles is about the 50th percentile.

 

It all depends on needs too. I have personally passed on a Testarossa with 46k miles offered to me for $75k. It needs a major, had a cooling issue and some smaller wear issues with the interior need addressed. It still sits for sale 6 months later because in reality its a $55k car and the owner is blind to it.

 

Doesn't change public perception of what mileage is considered high.

 

I'll respectfully disagree with this. There are no 55k cars anymore. We are in a dip on pricing and out of the driving season.
While I don't want to turn this into a political discussion but the election did have a detrimental effect on the collector market. All cars were down as well as our own business (construction services company for Florida ) Post election, we are now seeing a lot of projects that we had on our board beginning to start up.

I believe the collector market will also be up in spring....some from profits off the table from the rise in the stock markets and from a general sense of optimism we are now seeing.

How many of these cars really have these low miles? A 1991 TR (the last year) is a 25 year old car going on 26. Even averaging 100 miles a month the car has racked up 31,000 miles. These cars are old enough now to stop focusing on miles and look at condition and history.

 

Because the one's with over 40k miles didn't have there speedo's unplugged....lol

Exactly. But they still have the bolster wear and the pedal wear and the engine bays look like a 50,000 mile Honda. But hey, the odometer says 9800 miles.

 

That's also a fair point. I guess there's no way to prove they were dis- and then re-connected, right?

The best one was that 5k mile Tr being sold a few years back that had bolster wear on both seats.I've never seen that before..lol.But it only had 5k.I bought a 20k mile Tr a few years back and this car looked brand new.Even at the end when it had 96k yes miles the seats still looked better than most cars that show 25k.

 

Depending on condition and needs there will always be cars at $55k, as prices move up the condition you get at that price point just goes down. This car has a few needs, and the market obviously doesnt agree with the seller at anywhere near $75k. Do you want the contact info so you can vote with your personal dollars? A lot of people claim things are worth x until it comes to actually using their own money. Just like all the "what a steal" and "should sell quick at that price" comments in the classifieds section that now has the car still sitting 6 months later.
