Wasn't this car a part of the Chris Evans collection... I read somewhere it was resprayed in white after delivery... or a I confuse with another car.
Different cars. The Evans car is now red again, this (in the above link) example is still white. Both cars were painted white in the UK by two separate companies, Evans's car was trimmed a light blue interior, the other trimmed with a Bordeaux interior. Evans had his done white in the late 2000s the other car was done later. Paul
Joe, forgive me, as I'm sure this may have been covered before. Was there a US 288 vs. a Euro car, or just one platform? If there was, can you list some of the cosmetic and engineering differences?
All cars were Euro spec from factory, cars imported in to the USA had to undergo (ugly) modifications to the bumpers to comply with impact regulations. Dick Fritz of Amerispec did a lot of this work. I don't know off the top of my head if the cars required any mechanical changes owing to emission laws. Paul
Trust me, the USA DOT-mandated modifications had absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever, and are best forgotten about now the cars are all old enough to simply take them off and throw them away! They serve no realistic purpose in the present, and their execution by a variation of compliance agents was amateurish at best. Each compliance agent in the USA seemed to approach the mandated mods differently, so there is hardly a standard application. Think two words: automotive vandalism. These iconic cars deserve to exist as their artisan maker created them...
I have seen some of these back in September at the Ferrari Racing Days at the Hockenheimring. What a great sound! Magnificent car! PS: Are you visting some Ferrari Events next year if I can ask?
